It's quite likely that event prompted the start of human civilisation by giving us the final evolutionary push we needed however it wasn't long enough to cause the distinctions between humans from different locations. Plus it is suspected that the human population was reduced to one group.

Pffft.... I'm bummed we come in such a limited variety. It'd be great if some of us were blue, green or maybe even striped. And skin color is only the beginning. Compared to other species we're all damn near identical.

But that's probably for the best, we can't deal with the subtle differences we have now.
