Normally I wouldn't post something like this in the Red Room, but at this hour it may be the only hope I have of getting an answer. I'm looking for a Big Band song that is used in countless movies, commercials, and tv shows, usually to depict factory work. I know I've heard it in The Simpsons, and in the PBS "The War" episode 2 documentary. I have no idea what it's called, who it's by, or how to describe it since there are no words to it. All I know is that it's a famous big band song. Please help me, it's stuck in my head.
This is the track list from the official soundtrack CD. Not sure if it helps. CD Tracks: 1. American Anthem - Norah Jones 2. Two Pieces for Strings - William Walton 3. The Wang Wang Blues - Benny Goodman 4. Movin' Back Take 52 - Wynton Marsalis 5. How Long Blues - Count Basie 6. In the Nick of Time - Edgar Meyer 7. It's Been a Long Time - Bing Crosby 8. America, My Home - Wynton Marsalis 9. If I Could Be With You - Nat 'King' Cole 10. Blue as the Turquoise Night - Yo-Yo Ma 11. Until I'm in Your Arms Again - Wynton Marsalis 12. Variations for the Healing of Aninushka - Arvo Pärt 13. Basie Boogie - Count Basie 14. Concerto for Clarinet - Aaron Copland 15. If You Can't Smile - Nat 'King' Cole 16. American Anthem - Amanda Forsythe/Bill Charlap
You mioght want to try looking for it on you tube by searching for big band and listening to the vids.
It';s not. I know which one Tex is talking about and it's usually accompanied in stock footage of factories. I tried looking on YouTube as well, but I don't know what the title is myself.
Well, why not post a youtube vid not neccesarily of the song itself but of something that has the song in it?
I know the song you mean. I think. It was recently used in a debit card commercial, where the efficient cafeteria grounds to a halt when some idiot pays in cash, right? Gimmie a minute to look at a few things.
The song is "Powerhouse" by Raymond Scott. It's the middle section of the song, so some samples may sound different.
The song is "Powerhouse" composed by Raymond Scott and most familiar for being used repeatedly by Carl Stalling in his scores for Warner Bros. short cartoons in the 40s and 50s.
I don't see how it's possible, but I'll try... ba baa ba, ba baa ba, ba baa ba, (some kind of horn comes in) wawaaaeeee wahaahaa... da naaa na na naa naaaa, na na naa na na naaa na na... and so on and so forth...
Did it sound like the bit from "The Mask", where Jim Carrey first dances with Cameron Diaz? Because if so, J. Allen has nailed it. "Sing, Sing, Sing" by Benny Goodman. Has a bit of a jungle-like drum piece between movements.
Wasn't sing sing sing also the song used in the movie below, on the phonograph which plays right when the German destroyer is over head... I think it was.
I think it was in a chips ahoy commercial, the simpsons, and is used for assembly line shots in various things.
it was the song in the episode where Mr Burns was gonna marry marge's mom... now to figure out what episode that was and figure it out...
At any rate, I just wanna say I'm relieved. I thought this was going to be a thread where you proclaimed your undying love for enlistedperson.
