I couldn't find that story anywhere else, including the links you gave. I found a few forums talking about it. Where did you find it?

I'm starting to wonder if this is an internet rumor. Counterfeit currency is the jurisdiction of the Treasury Department, so I would expect the Secret Service to do a raid like this, not the FBI.

If it was involved with "criminal or terror" to get the warrant, since the counterfeit charge has been shown to not cover it, it might require the FBI...

Depends on how the case is approached. A fraud investigation would be the FBI's purview.

Here's something from a newspaper called the Evansville Courier & Press. I have no idea if this is credible or not. It's dated today.

Other forums are also claiming only to have seen it in a mass email. It's not being reported by a single credible news source. Until I see some actual sources this one is filed under internet hoax in my book.

Even with that link I agree with Tex. That newspaper article was posted three hours ago and still there is nothing about it on any of the major media companies websites. Someone would have picked this up by now.

I'm not really sure. I mean who's heard of this company and really cares?$20M really ain't shit. I'd be willing to bet Evenflow has that much in farm equipment alone.

I bet most of the people on wordforge have heard of this company. I think if it were true that the Feds just up and taking 20 million dollars from a company would be quite scary. But at this point I'm willing to bet all the pink flamingo feathers and ruby studs on Flow's farm equipment that this is a fake.

If I were a betting man, I'd be betting that anything seized was seized as evidence pursuant to a pretty substantial Federal fraud investigation.

On the Ron Paul board there are people claiming that no one is answering the phones at the liberty company and that the FBI is redirecting all phone calls about this matter to some attorney.

Well, I don't hold any liberty dollars, and this has always been my personal issue with 'silver certificate' type bearer bonds. The paper may be backed by the metal, but only until someone steals/confiscates the metal. Better to have the metal yourself. Which is how I play it. Of course, I look on my metal as an investment as well as an inflation hedge, not as an alternate form of currency I go out and try to spend. And why on Earth would you, when the value of metals keeps going up and the dollar keeps falling? Spend yer damn dollars before they ain't worth shit!

What can one buy with a Liberty Dollar? And as for the paper version - what guarantees their value?

I'm far from a conspiracy nut, but things like that read to me as "we know it's legal but are going to keep digging as long as we can until we find something we can nail him on because we don't like it"

    Mail fraud and money laundering?

I don't want to jump to any conclusions here, but if this is not a hoax why not charge the company with tax evasion or something closer, if indeed this is all about the Liberty Dollar as competition to Federal Reserve Notes?

Or would that bring the truth too close to light, that this kind of barter means that the Feds don't get a cut of the pie?

Or is all this speculation too close to fan-wanking?

Wow, this part especially makes the entire thing seem like a scam. They're operating out of a strip mall where they're apparently keeping some of the metals (since when is a strip mall a secure location?) and is run by a guy called Bernard von NotHaus? He sounds like a fucking Bond villian from the Moore era or some evil Nazi henchman in the Indiana Jones movies.

Honestly, no matter the motives, I'm kind of glad that there was an investigation/raid. It's probably prevented a bunch of lawsuits that would just clog up our legal system.
