I was the one who claimed RickDeckard was a bigot, PGT misunderstood my wording and thought I was equating opposition with bigotry. I wasn't. But hey, if that's how you see Wordforge more power to you.

Nonsense. Christianity is by far the most discussed religion on Wordforge.

And a great deal of that "discussion", involves christians and faith-iests wanting the subject changed or closed.

But, if it makes you happy, Islam is a nastier faker bit of business as a collection of ideas, than Christianity, (but not by much) but, that doesn't change I find them all to be a con-job, whether originally well intended or not, and overall, the worst tragedy to befall mankind.

There have been many worse tragedies than religion. Religion has yielded some of the most beautiful cultural art the world has ever seen.

Well we agree Christianity is the most discussed religion, and we disagree that much of said discussion involves Christians wanting to change or close the subject. To be honest I can't remember the last time anyone called for any RR thread to be closed for any reason other than a duplicate thread. As for changing subjects, well that's a common tactic used in darn near every thread.

None spring to mind...the nastiest had a religious component right up to 9/11.

One kind of HAD to go along with religion in those days.
And we'll just plain never get to hear what evolution/big-bang inspired Mozart concertos or Davinci paintings would have looked/sounded like for comparison.

Doesn't impact my happiness one way or another, and I'm well aware of your opinion regarding religion.

Whereas I see a much more basic element consistent with all the horrors of humanity: People.

Ask them what? If your opinion that Islam edges out Christianity in sheer nastiness affects their happiness?

I never said religions fell from the sky, did I?
    They're human designed systems.
    Hence their vileness.
But, the hustlers that whipped 'em up are a minority of little criminals.
All the swindlers, hustlers, conquerors, warlords, gangsters, dictators, a minority amongst a larger humanity that was just trying to plow their turnips and get by.

No, I don't buy the "everybody sucks", line.
Oh, don't get me wrong, a lot of people suck.
Holy shit is there a lot of 'em.

But, absent the bullshitters and bullies, I think most people are just trying to get through.

It would inconsistent for you to make such claim.

With due respect my friend that is some weapons grade bull-onium. People are bad, but most are just trying to get by, a handful of people are bad and they ruin it for everyone else, but a lot of people suck to begin with?

Listen, I'm not selling the "everybody sucks" line. I'm saying humanity gets the credit and blame for everything we've done. Trying to blame one element of human culture for all the ills of the world is just silly. But I suppose, like everyone else, you're just trying to get by.

    No, some.

    Mmm hmm...

Yeah, that handful that equals still quite a bit.

Did I say all the ills?

The answer is no, that's no what I'm saying.
I meant ask someone living under Sharia how religion effects their happiness.
To not get that, you'd either have to be stupid, or deliberately playing with my words.
You're not stupid, so what am I to think?

I'll hand it to Dicky that he at least shares his disdain with all religions, unlike most of the athiests on this board that just seem more anti Christain than anti-religion. :borg:

So my post is either stupid or disingenuous, except I'm not stupid?

Okay you doubt my sincerity, that's cool, but are you saying that the only folks who don't understand what you're talking about are either stupid or lying?

Cuz, "Ask someone living under Sharia." came across as a non-sequitur. At least to me. Sincerely.

That's obviously because there are quite a number of Christians here and almost all of us come from cultures which are heavily influenced by Christianity.

So both Diacanu, and you agree with me that garamet's comment was nonsense.

I think it's plain that she's being ironic, portraying the views of those who'd rather not see Christianity discussed around here.

No you didn't. You said it was a con-job regardless of intent and the worst tragedy to befall mankind.

Which of course is crap, that title clearly belongs to Oprah.

Worse than religion is Communism/Socialism/Polymorphicbaitandswitchism. Although religion has inflicted suffering and death on humankind, it's also yielded cultural progress and stability in its own right, not to mention literature, music and art of the highest orders. Communism (whatever style of sheeps' clothing the wolf may wear from one visit to another) has left no comparable positive influence on any society in which it takes root.

If one can consider the literature, music and art produced when theocracy was practiced as a benefit of said theocracy, then I can point to much great literature, art and music produced under "communism" too. See Pasternak, Lem, Tarkovsky, Eisenstein, Gorky...
But in reality the system of government has little to do with the art.

It's not just the Renaissance. It's all of human history. Faith, passion, mysticism, philosophy and culture are all tied up in religion and all of those things inspire art. It's a rich well to dip from.

    Note my first sentence.
As Rick said, it was theocracy.
If you think the art's worth it, hey, why not let Islam conquer us, get back to "the good old days"?

There are forms of government which have implemented some elements of "communism", and these countries prosper, if you like it or not... Look at the scandinavian countries, for example. When I'm painting with the same broad brush like you did in your post, these countries are socialist hellholes. But they offer excellent quality of life for their citizens. They are on top of every list. Education, average income, public health...
