I've always had this idea, but somehow forgot to mention it in several different threads. The idea was, that the Red Room really should be a showcase of our style of debate regarding various topics. When I go down the list of topics currently in the Red Room, I see: Do you like John Castle/skinofevil/visionrazor, et al? An Offer to visionrazer John Castle, why do you think you are so unpopular? Derailment Bitchfest from the Green Room Public Apology To Tamar membership drive success The coup continues...Nick Ballsack unthrowned ...and I don't know if these really represent what the Red Room is suppose to be about. At worst, they take up a chunk of the Red Room thread space, and new people would have no idea what these are. One of my proposals would have been to boot these threads to Grey Room, where 'community' type threads like this can be discussed to everyone's hearts content. If bitchfests end up talking about posters instead of the topic at hand, they could also be split out of the thread and moved to a new thread in the Grey Room. Grey Room would obviously have RR rules. (And yes Apostle, your very true point you were making about TrekBBS sucking is noted.) We seem to get a batch of these types of threads every couple of months or so, and so the other point is maybe we are creating a separate room where this would only be used about 4 to 6 times a year, and maybe the best course of action is to let it pass. I don't want to ban users sniping at each other in the threads themselves because I feel sometimes that is part of what gives this place the character it does, and thread splits would occur only if it was becoming extremely distracting and hard to follow the original topic, but I thought I'd put this proposal out there and see what you guys think. As with anything, I'd be loathe to change it if the rest of the community was opposed to it.
Where did you get that idea? Wordforge isn't some sort of organizational entity where the staff have a public relations department and all the staff are told what to say, how to say it, and not to make public comments under certain circumstances. Frankly, I'd rather it not be that way. The reality is, one day I woke up, and the Grey Room was gone. I knew we were talking about forum merges, specifically about Iron and Gold, but though I had an inkling about the Grey Room being killed some day, I never got a memo saying it would be on that day.
It is what it is. You want us to run it like some sort of fortune 500 company where we have a PR department and staff have weekly meetings discussing what sort of unified "front" to put up for the membership and boot anyone who doesn't march in lockstep? You couldn't PAY me to do that.
It is actually quite the opposite, as you know having been on staff. Never have I known the staff to be of one mind about anything.
I dunno, aren't you in a group of individuals with a common purpose? Doesn't seem you've accomplished shit!
The Grey Room hadn't been posted in for ages. In my opinion the Red Room should have as few restrictions as possible.
No, what I suggest is that the mods keep their mouths shut until a poll result is in, or a decision is in, and, whether they like it or not, they put on a collective front. Do you remember why I was removed as a mod?
Depends on how you view these types of things. From my perspective, my voice should have no more influence than other members simply because I'm trusted with access to edit and warning buttons.
Half-assedly changing things back and forth with no rhyme or reason is a terrible way to run anything, including wordforge. Whether it happens because of disunity of policy among various policy makes or it happens because a single policy maker can't make up his mind doesn't really matter. Vapid indecision, whether collective or individual in nature, isn't ever a good thing. It's especially bad when it comes to matters where the most important thing is simply to have a stable rule that people can understand and follow.
I don't know what your solution should be, but I do know that when I see that crap atop the Red Room, I can't hit the bookmarks toolbar fast enough. Adios, muchachos...
Its own forum? No, as you point out it would only be used a couple times a year for the shitstorms. No need to clutter up the front page/air our dirty laundry. I could see a members only subforum under the Red Room being an interesting experiment though. Edit. But ditch the Grey Room name. Call it The Daycare in honor of one of our fallen sister boards...
I've been advocating for a daycare forum for some time as a place to put people who need to cool off. Wouldn't hurt to move the threads (or appropriate portions) there too.
Grey/Gray..... Both still gay. Hey that sounds like a protest chant. GREY! GRAY! BOTH STILL GAY! GREY! GRAY! BOTH STILL GAY! GREY! GRAY! BOTH STILL GAY! GREY! GRAY! BOTH STILL GAY!
Call it Day Care or something similar, and it'll get my vote. But reserve it for threads that start out as call-outs or bitch-fests. Otherwise you'll spend hours pulling posts out of legitimate threads because Azure's whining about derailments.
