Anyone else watching this? After some issues with Netflix - probably due to demand - I'm just starting. Good choice in Kristen Wiig for a young Lucille, but no love for Seth Rogen as young George. Or anything really.
Not as much so far. I've watched four episodes and find her collagen/surgery ageing to be a distraction. Maebe has grown into a hot ugly girl though.
Yeah, Portia De Rossi hasn't aged so well...the long extensions she was wearing for the first few episodes did her no favors. But so far, the first three episodes are pretty good. I'm at a hotel at the moment, and I'm surprised the Internet is even fast enough to stream.
I'm only 2 episodes in so far and it is definitely funny. I'm not sure I like the direction they've taken Michael though.
That's what I'm waiting for, the eps I've seen are funny, but it feels like it needs a punchline. I think Tambor had some work done as well.
Is anyone else watching right now? Netflix says "Content Unavailable" for AD. It may have broken Netflix.
^It's working fine for me. I've watched the first six episodes, and so far I find them to be mostly funny. I didn't really like the first episode, and I'm not quite sure why, but the other episodes have been enjoyable. I really liked "The B Team". So far there hasn't been nearly enough GOB, Maebe, George Michael, or Buster, but that might change in later episodes.
Also, I'm loving the "Showstealer Pro Trial Version" watermark they're using on cutaway clips from the first three seasons.
A lot of the stuff feels forced. Tobias isn't quite right. Michael was definitely never that stupid. I'm only 3 episodes in though so hopefully it clicks.
^It definitely improves. I agree that the first episode or two had some really forced stuff, but they fall right back into their groove soon. I'm on episode 10 right now, and the last 5 or so have been great.
I have one episode left. I'm going to rewatch the first 14 before I view it to catch stuff I missed along the way. It's the only way I can still have any new AD for a little bit longer. /Charlie Brown music
^Yeah, the first Lindsey episode sucked. They should have thrown in a Buster or Maeby episode sooner.
The first Lindsey episode was the weakest of the bunch but funnier the 2nd time with all the tie ins. The 2nd Lindsey episode was funny the entire time. I was also impressed with the Buster episode which I feared would suck going into it.
Well, after watching all the episodes...it's still a bit uneven. It gets better, but like Chad said, they put too much focus on the wrong characters. There are an article in USA Today over the weekend that mentioned that it took a while to round up the entire cast and that a lot of episodes were filmed well out of sequence. Most of Jason Bateman's scenes were filmed within a month and Ben Stiller's were filmed not even three (!) months ago (which not that I think about it explains why the guy playing Gob looks far more freckled in some shots and not others). In short, the new focus on each character had a lot to do with writing around everyone's schedules. I don't think it did anyone any favors. Still, I have to appreciate the writers for taking the time to create new in-jokes as opposed to relying on the ones from the original series and actually developing the characters in new directions.
Mitch Hurwitz has a reputation for doing lots of rewrites on the fly. The scripts sent out to the cast were rarely the same as what got shot a week later.
Just knocked out Eleven, its to the point I don't even think that bad about One looking back. But the voting was still tedious.
I thought the first Lindsey episode was funny. I was disappointed in the first George episode, but may think better of it on the second go. I've eben pacing myself -- only four episodes in!
Ok, everything DOES start coming together with the fifth episode. There's just something wonderful about that self-oblivious queer, Tobias Funke.
Even when it wasn't funny, the show totally felt like Arrested Development. The best way I can think of describing a lot of the episodes are that it's like seeing the scenes that would happen with individual characters inbetween the big group scenes that the original run focused on.
