Oh, so we are back to that old double-standard, are we?

It's okay for black people to use the word any way they want, but the second that a white person even whispers the word in any context they are automatically RRRRAAAACCCIIIISSSTTTT!!!!!!

We can't whine about the world we live in, because we are masters of that world. In absolute terms, not true, but it's close enough. It's a bit like the phrase "first world problem." When some of us have it so much better than others by mere accident of birth, we shouldn't complain too much when the others notice.

Here's an interesting take on things, and also some suggestions for how Paula can sort of redeem herself.

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...e-real-reason-everyone-dumped-paula-deen.html

Her biggest problem is that she kills her followers too quickly. Kind of a metaphor for the kind of thinking that says what she said was okay. It's a dying breed.

That may well be the most racist thing you've ever posted. Do not include me in the aforementioned "we."

I'd have said "stupid and insensitive," but if that's how you feel about it, I won't dispute you.

    Again, context.

And I still don't think Deen's problem was what came out of her mouth, but what she was putting in it.

Which part of that is the joke?

Now, does Paula Deen deserve to lose her entire livelihood over this? No. However she didn't "deserve" it in the first place, beyond the extent that companies thought the publics positive view of her would benefit them. If that image is harmed then she loses what sh brought to the table.

So you didn't understand what I wrote. Thanks for the simplistic labelling response, it kind of proves what I've noticed you became during my absence.

I cook, and still don't know why I should watch cooking shows.

In fact, I'm not really sure why I should bother with much of anything on television. If it's a good film, it'll be on DVDs. If it's news, it'll be on internet, and presented in more detail. The rest seems to be drivel.

I don't watch cooking shows either. But I still know who she is. I know Rachel Ray as well. And Emeril Green. And Anthony Bourdain.

    WOW! :soma:

I can know stuff without having to take the time to watch their shows just by paying attention to the world around me!!!!1!

    Who would have thought it???

Apparently not Forbin which is exactly my point. It seems he's always saying, "I've never heard of (insert whatever here) and why should I give a fuck?" That's paraphrased of course. In any thread, especially one dealing with a person, when I read Forbin's first post that's usually what I'm expecting to see from him.

I hadn't noticed, but if so, more power to Forbin. Unnecessary popcorn information makes your brain fat.

    Edit: To Forbin.

    Seen any Lindsay Lohan movies?

Listened to any Britney Spears music?

    No?

Do you know who Britney and Lindsay are though?

Are you fucking telling me that you don't know anything unless you watch it first?

    Come on.....

    Getthefuckouttaherewiththatbullshit

I don't watch Soccer but I know who David Beckham is.

I don't watch Tennis but I know who Venus and Serena Williams are.

Paying attention to the things that you read and see and hear is not a bad thing.

I'm not saying one has to know everything. Hell I don't know everything.

I'm just saying it seems more often then not Forbin is saying he doesn't know.....

And if you had paid attention to my post you just quoted and responded to, your response might have addressed what I actually said.

Take a step back. Why is this so important to you? It seems like an incredibly minor issue, and yet you sound as if you're close to a heart attack.

Ok, I'll give you that. If I lived in the States, I would definitely like to watch live baseball. (Besides, if I lived in the States, I wouldn't have to pay a $150 annual tax in order to own a television, so it wouldn't be such a big deal.)

Yes dominoes would be a stereotype....for blacks. I know you're not from around here, but many blacks love playing dominoes in a very enthusiastic, boisterous manner. Dominoes is not very popular among whites. BTW this is just my personal experience, yours may be different.

actually, yeah, I'm very familiar with the tone of a game of dominoes. I even play that way :D Don't know many but the Asians to be into craps outside of the casino though...

I'm just not seeing why "Cracker Barrel" having checker boards offends you? Is checkers associated with being a rural white thing or do they just not serve saltines?

Summing up, then, we can apply the Uncle Albert Rule: "Corporations should be free to do whatever the fuck they want, and if you don't like it you can go work someplace else...unless it involves Something I Don't Like."

Your playground deflections are silly. Your comments are far worse than saying the n-word some decades back.

You're lucky you don't have a cooking show.

Which, frankly, is none of anyone else's business.

If it offends, simply stop partaking of her products.

And honestly, anyone who pretends they had no clue her kind of cooking is unhealthy in large doses, or for every day eating, is pretty fucking stupid to begin with.

By "the world around you," you must mean "mainstream pop culture vomited at you from your TV screen." That doesn't make you alert and aware, it makes you a hypnotized fucking drone.

Not giving enough of a shit to know who the fuck some asshole celebrity is, is a good thing. More people should follow that example, until all the asshole celebrities die of attention starvation.

I can read. But let's not overestimate the average American's understanding of nutrition.

Again, I just think QVC missed a golden opportunity here...

The average American's comprehension level is not her problem. Unless she physically forced food down someone's throat, she bears no responsibility for their health.
