69 years ago today, America dropped a nuclear weapon on a largely civilian population. Over 5,000 people were killed either directly or indirectly.

Today, that city and country has not only thrived, but brought us such wonders as Manga, Anime, Pokemon, Nintendo, and whole host of other bizarre shit.

    Thanks America!

A nice effort, but I prefer to celebrate Nagasaki, as it usually gets a lot less mention. Saturday is going to be party day!

I can't wait for the inevitable 70-year anniversary celebration next year.

(Hey, it's an even number... so of course we have to have a big commemoration!)

One wonders, what bizarre entertainment could say, Iran come up with in a few decades if we acted now.

Dammit, if only Jimmy Carter had been more decisive during that whole hostage thing, Tehran might've become a seedy neon jungle by now!

Truly, Hiroshima and Nagasaki are lucky for their notoriety. Had I been in charge these past 70 years, they'd be in a club with dozens of members.

I would say "Detroit" but Detroit seems to be doing a fine job, on its own, of producing the same result without there being radioactive fallout destroying most of southern Ontario.

The Canadians would probably be very unhappy with us if we sent them that much radioactive fallout. They might even complain to the UN.

Yes. But there is such a thing as the Jeriko rule: Some positions condemn you for seriously supporting them, and condemn you further for joking about them.

There is nothing that can't be joked about. George Carlin proved that decades ago.

If anything, the universe itself appears to be one big practical joke.

Sheesh. Get the poles out of your arses.

I completely agree with that. 100%, hands down.

But you've got to get a joke right in order for it to be funny. Speaking from a position of strength against people in a position of weakness, and taking a position that assholes in positions of strength support seriously, doesn't somehow become funny because you add an implied "but hey, I don't really believe that myself".

In short, Carlin would have found a way to say something worth saying with a joke, and that would have been hilarious. Your attempt isn't.

From Wikipedia: "The hypothetical person lacking a sense of humour would likely find the behaviour induced by humour to be inexplicable, strange, or even irrational. Though ultimately decided by personal taste, the extent to which a person finds something humorous depends on a host of variables, including geographical location, culture, maturity, level of education, intelligence and context."

I wonder who that hypothetical person could be? :chris:
