I never wanted to be an owner in the first place. I just didn't want the place shut down. Which is why when you approached me I went and tried to get Tex, flow, and gul to take it. Separately at first, then together. They would only do it if I agreed to be in charge for the first year, which I did. I also made clear that we were each only signing up for one year, and after one year anyone could leave, no arguments, no questions asked. Now that that is done, and we have a stable ownership group (and board) I can leave.

From the beginning the idea has been to make the board more user controlled. Thus the expansion of the mods and admins, the multiple owners, and now owner rotation.

Why should we believe that post over all the others from yesterday?

Still a prereq, I think. I posted a link to a news story about the nearly complete recovery of the California Blue Whale population, saying that now we face a threat from monsters from the f***ing deep. So of course I was perma-banned for fear mongering.

If you want to get banned here then you have to do something pretty extreme. You don't just "wander" into it. Instead of "trusting" how "really good" you are at getting banned, why do you stop telling us how good you are at it and actually show us the reasons why you get banned? So far I am seeing a pretty nondescript individual with an overinflated opinion of how much of a badass he is.

Oh, they're as I describe. I once got banned for hilariously defending the word "coed" in response to a spontaneous protest over my use of "coed" about a college girl who was accidentally shot and killed by police. They somehow thought the word was sexist. I pointed out that it's still standard in headlines at the LA Times, NY Times, and CNN, not exactly bastions of sexism. So zap.

Several of the mods bait and flame me all the time, hoping for any infraction, to the extent that "ignore" was the best option. They really have some serious issues going on, and I never bothered getting to know anyone right-of-center over there because they'd usually be banned in a month or two. I may have set a record for managing to stay around for ten years.

Tellingly, my ban from the TNZ was on the condition that it would be lifted when I started supporting Obama. Could you imagine someone being banned until they agreed to support Bush?

I can't see how TerraPony could get banned. I've tried to read his posts and the furthest I've gotten is maybe the 4th sentence. My eyes glaze over and I just scroll on. Apart from spamming gay porn or hurting Anc's feelings, I can't actually think of how you get banned from this place--and the latter isn't even a bannable offense any more. I guess, poring through someone's Blue Room thread and then using that to make a thread mocking them in the Red Room will get you banned--but usually only until you say you're sorry. And this wouldn't work for Terra for the reasons I pointed out at the beginning of this post. He'd yammer on about nothing for a couple paragraphs and by the time he got around to the actual offense, people would have moved on to the next post.

Well, I suspect they didn't know, because it came up again a couple of months ago when the mod popped into a thread on Cosmos and started screaming about why I had been banned years before, contrary to all the rules there, and screaming that I was a racist. I gave my side of the story, as above, and said the mod in question freely admitted that there wasn't anything racist that got me banned, and that I hadn't been trolling, but that I was required to support Obama, which I said must be the most bizarre ban in TNZ history. He didn't dispute any of that, but when he carried on about it I mentioned that the messages in question were still in my inbox and that maybe some of the higher ups would find them interesting. He never said a word after that, leading me to suspect that the other mods had no idea about any of it.

In fact, perhaps my perma ban has more to do with those messages still sitting there than anything about blue whales

If I was a troll it wouldn't have taken mods who despise me (I could tell cause they'd say things like "I despise you!" and start ranting) ten years to ban me, having to flag funny jokes for almost all the infractions, once even saying that the infraction was because perhaps someone might not get the joke. And that's while getting flamed and baited in threads where they were handing out infractions like speeding tickets at the Indy 500. ^_^
