Well, okay. But given how it affected a few million people's access to healthcare in the Red States, I thought it merited a separate mention.
Scalia is throwing a 3 year old in the toy section of the department store tantrum fit. Squeal, you little piggy.
I would have preferred they overturn the unconstitutional thing, but oh well. More gubbermint freebies! MORE!!
The rule of law suffers another cut. Laws now don't mean what they say, but what the court divines they were intended to do.
More Americans with access to healthcare. More access to preventive care, which lowers long-term costs to the healthcare system. Fewer ER visits that cost all of us higher healthcare costs. Yeah, tragic.
USA Today: Contrary to goals, ER visits rise under Obamacare Three-quarters of emergency physicians say they've seen ER patient visits surge since Obamacare took effect — just the opposite of what many Americans expected would happen. A poll released today by the American College of Emergency Physicians shows that 28% of 2,099 doctors surveyed nationally saw large increases in volume, while 47% saw slight increases. By contrast, fewer than half of doctors reported any increases last year in the early days of the Affordable Care Act.
And instead of passing those costs on to you, insurers will now be required to cover them. And as more Americans now have coverage for routine care, they will no longer need to wait for critical care at the ER. Your problem with this is -?
Another nail in the Constitution's coffin. Jon Roberts needs to Anyway, our system is doomed and the Republicans won't do jack shit about it.
Tragic that you don't seem to understand the enormous danger to liberty that this thing represents. Congress has decided, and the Supreme Court has affirmed, that the federal government can require you to purchase a commercial product should they decide it's in the national interest. Leaving aside the fact that there's no such power in the Constitution, you really aren't going to like this when a future Congress decides that you have to buy shares in Goldman Sachs because they're too big to fail and it's in the national interest to keep them afloat.
Because bailing out a bank (thank you, GWBush) is EXACTLY the same as promoting the general welfare as in keeping Americans healthy. Yup, yup, yup.
Conceptually it exactly is. In both cases you're being compelled to use your hard-earned money to buy a product deemed to be vital to the national interest whether you want it or not. And since you mentioned it, let me note yet again that the phrase is "promote the general welfare," not "provide the general welfare."
When it was Citizen's United, they were wise sages made of candy and magic. What happened? When did the love die? Was it this moment, or have the erections been fading before that?
Not to mention that words and intent no longer matter. Congress or the Supreme Court can write any law they want with no regard to the Constitution or how the law is actually written. There's absolutely now limit to Congress' legislative power now and the Supreme Court can decide according to how they feel rather than actually interpreting the Constitutions. But hey, It's okay because it was a decision that liberals love. I can't wait when we're all required to purchase guns.
Only if you're a moron who doesn't understand that insuring your health is at least as important as insuring your car. Yeah, because the likelihood that the guy who prepared your lunch order today can get treated for that cough before it turns into pneumonia has no impact on your general welfare at all. Nope, nope, nope.
According to you and your cohorts, the general welfare clause can mean whatever you want it to mean whenever its convenient to you, so don't come crying when it's used in a manner you don't like.
Would that I for an instant thought "conservatives", in Washington believed the bullshit they've shoveled about Obamacare/Romneycare. They just wanted Obama's presidency to fall flat on its face. They basically came out and said "any victory for him is bad for us". You know goddamned well, if they'd beaten Obamacare, made him a one term president, and gotten a Repug in the oval office, they would have just repackaged it with an elephant sticker on the box, and Federal Farmer would be eating it like ice cream.
I keep waiting for you to explain why a healthier America is a bad America, and all you can do is and . Not terribly convincing.
It is for me, now that liberals are laughing and celebrating their win with no real concern for the Constitution or the huge precedent this has set. I knew you guys hated the Constitution, but to not care about truly bad precedent it sets is a new level of retarded. I'm now inclined to vote for things I disagree with just because it hurts libtards.
Have we identified how old you are yet? Because the number I think it is keeps dropping every time you post. Anyhoo, one day your health care will be as good as Canada's. Today is not that day.
