The Iranians are rational actors. You have to look beyond the propaganda designed for domestic consumption and watch what they actually do. FF would have been one of the tards screaming the US can't make any treaties with the Soviets because their propaganda was "We will bury you!"

It is the same principle; verify and inspect. That is not trust that is fact based verification. This can indeed work and puts us in a much better position than we were before with way more fact based information.

I'm pretty sure most of the treaties made with the Soviets were after Brezhnev took over in 1964 or thereabouts.

Not knowing the context here, it’s hard to see any salient points. “Rational” is a matter of semantics, a pointless debate. Iran does what it does. There’s an argument to be made for a tougher stance on Iran, assuming that’s what you’re arguing for, but I’m not seeing it here. Nor do I see any evidence that gul is delusional.

Therefore:

Reagan merely happened to be in office when the expected and inevitable soviet economic crash-n-burn happened to occur. Ya know what really embolden those people to throw off the shackles of communism? Unions. Solidarity. Real Socialism. All Reagan did was to create a secondary arms race (Star Wars) to overtax the already-about-to-fail Soviet Economy to tank slightly sooner than economists had long predicted, which allowed Solidarity to get the upper hand on the hearts and minds of the workers... who finally did unite, and forced the government's hand.
