Pretty obvious both from the completely senseless act and his own statements, this guy was totally deranged. He didn't just snap, he spent weeks or months simmering.

I don't think it's been mentioned yet here, but the photographer's fiance was producing the newscast when the shooting happened.

It was her last show for the station. She'd recently gotten a job in a larger market.

Autism often prevents people from being able to form valid, and reasonable opinions and coupled with you low analytical analysis ability, one can understand why you manage to fail on so many levels.

I think it's time we broach the subject of black journalist violence, which of course includes sportscasters like OJ.

Sure, occasionally white journalists are involved in episodes of violence, especially the incident at KVWN San Diego, but mostly it's a problem with black journalists.

San Diego's KVWN news crew hard at work, the exception that proves the rule.

The guy was inspired to buy the gun after the Charlestown shooting, carves the names of the victims into the hollow points of his bullets, and he goes out and shoots white people.

Why is this not being considered a hate crime, exactly ?

Because blacks and other minorities can't commit hate crimes. The worst a non-white can do is misinterpret true Islam, which is a religion of peace.

    Only eight in 23 years?

I would've thought at least 30 or so.

And the last one on that list is pretty iffy. A journalist on the way home hit by a bullet intended for someone else? That's not especially work-related; that could've happened to anyone.

If you include accidents (vehicular and otherwise), the total is a lot higher.

You can go ahead and consider it such if it makes you feel better. But since he targeted specific people he knew, against whom he held a grudge, instead of random white people, you might have a hard time proving your case. There is definitely an element of racial hatred at play here, but it would be difficult to say at this point whether or not that was his primary motivation. It's pretty clear he wanted to cause a media sensation, and succeeded, but aside from that was obviously batshit insane, so who knows.

I've known a lot of angry, mean people.

None of them have murdered two people and then sent a 23-page manifesto to a news network that said, among other things, that their god told them to do it.

That sounds pretty insane to me, but clearly your mileage varies.

Angry, mean, and sane would be "How can I use violence to advance my cause?"

Angry, mean, and insane would be "How can I lash out in a senseless way that accomplishes nothing, share my rambling manifesto with the world, and then attempt a ridiculously inept escape after I've already identified myself as the killer to law enforcement?"

The thread exists to troll me by quoting things I supposedly said out of context.

If they can be bothered. Some people just make stuff up now.

    I saw it.

I still stand by what I said, even though I'm sure his claim was BS. I'm sure it'll apply to a mass shooting somewhere in the future anyway. :borg:
