    NPR story

Univision Communications Inc., the parent company to the nation's leading Spanish-language broadcast channel, has acquired a controlling stake in the satirical news site The Onion, NPR has learned.

The agreement between two seemingly disparate media outfits was described to NPR by a person with direct involvement in the negotiations. A second person who was briefed on the deal by Univision executives also confirmed its broad strokes. The amount of money involved in the deal was not disclosed. NPR has also obtained a memo from the CEO of The Onion announcing the deal to staffers.

This account is in many ways reliant upon the information provided by those two people. NPR sought comment Monday from corporate officials and spokespersons for Univision and The Onion about the deal, as well as from Fusion and ABC about elements of this story involving them. None of those messages by voice mail or email were returned.

Univision will acquire a 40 percent, controlling stake in The Onion, which includes the site, its influential sister popular-culture outfit The A.V. Club, the social media satire site Clickhole, and various book and video projects. Univision also will have the right to buy the humor company outright.

Ah, but does Univision really back Hillary?

From Politico: Inside the Univision-Clinton network

I'll take that as a yes. The result? This Onion Hillary story

Female Presidential Candidate Who Was United States Senator, Secretary Of State Told To Be More Inspiring

NEW YORK—Citing her lackluster support among young voters, campaign consultants to Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential frontrunner who has served as both a U.S. senator and secretary of state, reportedly instructed the candidate this week to be more inspiring. “Right now, voters are looking for a candidate who stands for real societal change, someone who can stir something inside them,” said media advisor Jim Margolis, urging the woman—who overcame entrenched societal biases to build a successful legal career, became the first female senator elected in the state of New York, oversaw the Department of State during a period of widespread international tumult, and, if elected, would be the first female president in American history—to appear more uplifting to voters. “Many young people have completely lost faith in the political process, and they want to believe that true progress is actually possible. They want someone who embodies progressive ideals.” Margolis added that Clinton was too much a part of the establishment she spent decades breaking down barriers to enter.

Oh, that's just heeeelarious. It's like Hillary wrote the jokes herself. :waiting:

Enjoy your crap sandwich, Democrats. There will be no jokes about History's Most Amazing Woman, the Great Leader of our Party and of our Nation, the Peerless Leader of the 21st Century, the Highest Incarnation of Womanly Comradeship.

Not Bernie because he's a socialist/communist stuck in the 60's. We don't need a Hugo Chavez.
Not Hillary because she's the most corrupt human to walk the Earth in the last century. We don't need an Imelda Marcos.
Not Cruz because he's a goddamn Canadian. We don't need a goddamn Canadian.
Not Bush because it would represent the establishment of a ruling family - and he's a dumbass. We don't need a dynasty.
Not Trump because he's a Democrat clown. We don't need a clown.
Not Carson because he's Xanax on Xanax. We need to wake up, not nod off.
That leaves Rubio or Kasich, and Kasich has to convince me that he won't act like every other Ohioan and go 55 in the left lane so nobody can get where they need to be.

Since I presume there's no way in hell Bernie Sanders will get the nomination, my vote is !Hillary. ("Not Hillary.")

If by some chance, Sanders gets the nomination, I will be changing my vote to !Bernie.

I live on the planet where Trump spent his life cutting checks to prominent Democrats, where he blames Bush for 9/11, and where he defends Planned Parenthood's wonderful work with female health care. He's in the race because Bill Clinton convinced him to run.

He means Trump is running at the Clintons' behest, to sabotage the Republicans and hand the election to Hillary with a bow on it.

Still doesn't explain Trump's popularity, though.

Hmmmm . . . what if Trump launched his campaign because Billary asked him to, the whole "sabotage the Republicans" thing, but when Trump began to actually gain some traction his ego took over and now he's really in it to win it?

In this case I have to agree with @gturner. I grew up in NY where trump was always in the news, and he was definitally a democrat. They were the ones the most vocal about corporate welfare and trump ate that shit up. The cons did not like trump because he got government money to finance his piss poor business decisions while protecting his personal fortunes and it was seen that democrats were the party who were soft on outsourcing companies and urban development companies who ate up grants and loans and then went bankrupt. He went hand and hand with sharpton in many cases, and was socially liberal though willing to take advantage of minority manipulation. I remember his name went hand and hand with the clintons for corrupt democrats. The clintons and trump were together back in the day, and there were rumours he helped her find a place in NY when she was going for senator.

Still, you never know. I always thought Dennis Miller and the blonde airhead he worked with were liberal, but obviously he was as dumb as her.

Well, at least he didn't ruin The Onion yet. Hillary's folks did that. Check out the Onion link in the OP. It's craptastic, and followed by a story about the Koch brothers position a sniper to take shots at Rubio's podium to make sure he delivers the Koch brother's message.

Oh well. They used to be outrageous and funny. Now they're like a parody of a humor site written by Nancy Pelosi and Hillary.

Not really. Most of his recent rhetoric is only recent, and not too in line with his long standing positions.

    No it's not.

Trump was clearly a Democrat for his whole life until recently.

In fact you will see ads featuring himself talking like every Democrat out there.

Right now Ted Cruz is running an ad with Trump himself in the ad talking about being very pro-choice on abortion. Trump sent a threat of a lawsuit for defamation. Cruz laughed it off and told him to sue.

Trump likes to compare himself to Reagan who was also a Democrat but the thing about Reagan was he jumped to the Republican party and worked his way up and over time proved who he was politically. He didn't just start running for President.

It's easy to explain his popularity.

The people have been lied to so much by the Republicans and Democrats in Washington DC that they've finally had enough and grabbed on to a guy who to them looks and sounds like the fighter for them that they want.

It's the same with Bernie Sanders. Bernie was ignored his whole Senate career. So why is he surging on the left? Well the Democrats and Republicans in Washington DC have lied so much that people have finally grabbed on to a guy who they think will fight for them.

    Shame about the Onion.

Trump's dedication to the GOP's conservatism is highly questionable. He's a New York liberal who says whatever he has to to secure the nomination.

There are certain similarities between the campaigns of Trump and Sanders. Both include a hefty dose of populism. Both candidates say things politicians normally wouldn't say. Both have succeeded in setting the tone for their respective primary contests.

The difference, of course, is that Sanders has been talking about this stuff for years, and people are just now catching up with him. Trump is cynically cashing in on a preexisting strain of emotion among Republican voters, which is what I was getting at. If that strain wasn't already there, he wouldn't have been able to do anything.

What is amazing is that he knew exactly what to say to fire up the GOP base and it was exactly what Democrats knew it would be. The GOP base really is a parade of itself.
