I've sometimes found it interesting that sometimes some really terrible tv episodes from equally terrible series can have some short sequences that are actually pretty good in and of themselves.

    For example:

SeaQuest DSV: Season Two- Episode "Playtime". Considered one of the worst episodes of a series that was pure drek at that point, this episode at least had a very bried battle between a trio of battlemechs.

Andromeda-Season Two- "The Prince"- another episode featuring a couple of giant robots though the entire psychological tug of war between Captain Hunt and Tyr for the soul of the prince was pretty good as well.

Galactica:1980- "The Night the Cylons Landed"- An awful episode even by the standards of this series (Wolfman Jack in a science fiction episode?? wtf!!). This episode did feature an interesting space battle at the opening between one of Galactica's recon Vipers and a massive, heavily armed new Cylon fighter.

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century- "Return of the Fighting 69th". While this Buck Rogers series wasn't as dreadful as the three series listed above it was far from great. Yet "Return of the Fighting 69th" featured Peter Graves and culiminated in a nicely done space battle. Actually a strafing run

Can anyone think of any others?

wow.....I have never seen any of these shows. That said, it might be a while until I can think of any examples from shows I am familiar with.

How old are you? While the Buck Rogers series and Galactica 1980 were in the late 70s, Seaquest DSV & Andromeda were both in the 1990s or later.

I never watched Andromeda, aside from a part of an episode here or there. I really couldn't tell you what it's about aside from general info. Andromeda had Kevin Sorbo on a ship going around doing shit. I watched Seaquest, can't tell you much other than it's about a sub, had Roy Scheider and a few other people, Dom DeLuis's kid, Jonathan Brandis (who killed himself) and a dolphin.

So you can't really fault someone for not knowing what those shows are about, he may have had zero interest in them.

I can't blame @oldfella1962 for not watching those series, and I find it interesting that you enjoy utterly shite shows like Seaquest DSV and Andromeda, while at the same time disparaging critically-acclaimed shows like Firefly, Battlestar Galactica and the new Trek.

    Says a lot, actually.

There was an ep of SeaQuest that featured Kent McCord. They found an alien ship buried in an undersea cliff or some such. In an otherwise assinine series, this ep had a sense of wonder and discovery that blew me away.

Yes, Forbin I like space battles. Why are you being an ass about that? It is a perfectly legitimate reason to enjoy a space opera.

    Get a WTFing clue........

There was sequel to that episode. The Season Two finale where a starship transported SeaQuest to a water world to help defend the aliens from their enemies which were attacking using sea borne forces (the planet was originally desert so the aliens had no aquatic technology).

Unfortunately SeaQuest was destroyed in the effort.

The problem with SeaQuest early on was that their producers and series star Roy Scheider DID NOT want it to be a science fiction series. Reportedly some of them even refused to call it "science fiction" instead using the term "science faction". Scheider was proud of telling people that "aside from the thing that enabled them to talk to the dolphin" everything on SeaQuest was either available or on the drawing boareds today.

Honestly, I think the horrendousness of Shades of Gray is overhyped. You have a half hour of a decent episode, which is a half hour more than the last season of Voyager managed in 26 episodes. :bergman:

Shades of Gray could have been a cool episode if they would have tapped into memories from before Ryker was assigned to the Enterprise. But it was a money saving episode so they couldn't do that

Voyager- Future's End: The Doctor gets his mobile emitter, and Sarah Silverman was cute.

Voyager- Threshold: They broke the warp 10 barrier. That should have been a bigger deal to Trek history than it was. If it happened on TNG, they would have made a season arc about it, and it would have transformed the TNG movies radically, but on Voyager, it was just the bubblegum center to a dogshit jawbreaker, and then forgotten about.

Voyager- Mortal Coil: Seven reveals she can raise the fucking dead, and uses it on Neelix. Then, he's a whining little ingrate, just because religion isn't real. Pussy.
And that's what the episode writers focus on. Not the galaxy shaking implications of Borg nanites being the cure for death, no, "wahh, wahh, my childhood fairy stories are fake!! :weep:". " Awww, poor little moron, aww! It's perfectly understandable you'd poison your new lease on life. Let's be really PC about this bullshit. :itsokay:".
    Fuck this country.

The worst episode of that series was probably "Fly" and it was still pretty damn good.

IMO, "Fly" was probably the best one; at the very least, the most ambitious one, and though it had some flaws, it almost achieved its ambition.

Game of Thrones has all the HBO content you can have in a show. HBO needs to make the witcher books into a tv series.

Agreed, but surely you can see why Dayton wouldn't like a show like that. :diacanu:
