The Digital Bits is reporting that, other than a 4K remaster of TWOK, Paramount will simply be repackaging the existing shitty transfers of the motion pictures for the 50th anniversary. Also, there are no plans for a HD remaster of DS9 or the Director's Edition of TMP. So this is what Paramount is giving fans for Trek's 50th Anniversary: Let the bitching commence!
A 4K remaster of Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness are coming, and I'll definitely buy these if the reviews of the video are good. And a 4K TWOK?
Why don't they edit together the Best of Star Trek Space Battles or something similar? A superior version to what the guys on YouTube do.
But will it be the director's cut or the theatrical release? Because if its the theatrical release (which is what the streaming services had the last time I checked), you can keep it.
And, I'd just like to take a quick moment to remind everyone what forum we're in. That would be Media Central. Let's keep it civilized here, folks.
I was told over IIRC at the HELP desk that it is against the rules to use neg reps against people outside the Red Room or something to that effect. Doesn't that apply here? If not, why noit?
Why don't you start a thread in the appropriate forum on the subject? This isn't the place to have such a discussion, and not only do my moderating powers not apply in this forum, but I'd be disinclined to use them since I've been completely away from the boards for about 6 months. Not to smack someone down if there's been a change in the rules that I might have missed, and I'm not going to attempt to answer for those who are in charge and have been here the whole time.
No, you were not told that. It does not apply here or anywhere else on the board. If a person disagrees with your statement, thinks it's dumb, representative of fantasy thinking, or too long to bother reading, they may make use of the appropriate rep. And I'm quite certain I've seen you use this one outside the Red Room. Regardless, telling somebody to go to hell in Media Central is a clear case of flaming. Don't do it again.
Because you don't make the rules, that's why. It has been explained several times to you. But you having difficulty with analytical analysis of board rules and having had the rules explained to you several times does not change the fact the the rules are what they are and you don't have any in what the rules are.
I don't really see a need for remastering -- the show still looks good -- but if they issued a new set with commentaries on, say, half the episodes, I'd buy it.
They are watchable. But after going through TOS and TNG remasters, DS9 DVDs get harder to look at. Even if they don't remaster the show I feel like they could at least release it on Blu Ray. I'm sure the episodes would look better if they were decompressed. Since they've already done the remastering process with TNG I would think Ds9 would be even cheaper to do. I know that the later seasons used cgi instead of models for their effects shots... But they could just upscale those.
You are correct in that they're the three best Trek films. But there is a lot of other decent Trek out there and Paramount is essentially serving the fans a shit sandwich with a hint of Nutella, just to make it easier to go down when eating it.
I still have my DVDs of the TOS movies and have refused to give them my cash until they cough up the extended versions. Well, one down two to go I guess (if one includes Trek 6 as well). I don't understand the logic of not releasing TMP remastered. All they have to do is release a set with both versions and put a disclaimer before the revised movie explaining that the upscaled "new" effects were not originally produced in 1080p. How fucking hard is that to do? Surely better to have the newer, better version out there than not?
The effects or live action? The latter was shot on film. They went back to the original negative to do the remaster.
Nevermind that all we're getting for new material is "Star Trek Beyond". Doctor Who's 50th had "Day Of The Doctor", the "Light At The End", audio drama, the "An Adventure In Space And Time", biopic, and the "The 5(ish) Doctors", comedy special. Way to hit the snooze button, roll over, and fart, Paramount.
TV mini-series special. Picard, Janeway, Sisko and Archer join forces for "Day of the Shatner". Kirk returns from the dead at the end.
