Why is it always the Bible Beaters who know the least about the bible? You'd think that if they really believed the book had answers they'd at least learn basic shit, LIKE THE NAMES OF THE BOOKS!

Fuck. In Alabama we had to memorize the books of the bible back in 6th grade history. Arkansas public schools don't do that?

Do they only test 23 of your chromosomes? I have some cells with just 23, but I also have a lot of cells with 92 and 184 chromosomes, plus the cells with the usual 46. It's good to be tetraploid and more!

That said I do Dayton gets completely healed - it must be very scary & frustrating being sidelined by the weird medical shit he's going through. :( But I'm quite sure everyone on this board is a better natural athlete than me in team sports. In school I would have loved to be picked last for sports, because at least I would be picked. I was that guy left over that never get picked and one team had to take me. :( Even in the Air Force I was still very weak and uncoordinated. But once I joined The Army (after some hard physical activity via four years of construction) I gradually picked up steam. Around 30 I was hell-on-wheels, but then who isn't at age 30? But now at age 54 I see so many men my age (and sadly much younger) looking 9 months pregnant - fuck that! Humans did not evolve like that - we are looking like prey (overfed fat cows waiting to be slaughtered) instead of predators. I'm determined to not be like most men. Age is no excuse - I see guys at the gyms here on Fort Gordon who are way older than me and can outperform me no doubt about it. I'm not throwing away 100,000 years or so of evolution being sedentary.

This thread had so much promise, sadly it turned into the Dayton show again.

I don't understand the science behind evolution. Therefore the bible is true.

I don't know if that was aimed at me or Dayton, but I've never denied evolution and wanted to discuss the story of creation in Genesis vs evolution, but the thread got derailed into just talking about the bible.

    No they do not.

And I'm simply using the common name people tend to use.

There's really no good reason not to translate apocalypsis with the plural.

I really can't wrap my mind (feeble as it is) around not believing in evolution. We can see evolution all around us - many things (tactics, procedures, music, sports, virtually anything) start out simply then get more and more complex. There are deviations and speed bumps involved and it's not linear and it's not always pretty but it's the way of the world. And to reverse things (sort of) we can take any very complex thing and trace it back through it's history to it's simple beginnings. Nothing starts out fully formed & complete & a "finished product." Music doesn't start out with early humans imitating sounds & rythyms of nature & banging on rocks to a symphony orchestra overnight. There is a long involved natural progression. So we see new things being created constantly but gradually, not even realizing it at the time in many cases. Thus I can't buy six days of creation from nothing to a fully formed (stars, planets, our planet filled with complex life) universe in a week. So in a way religion and science both agree there was nothingness and then POW here we go - but that's where the similarity ends of course.

So dogs, coyotes, wolves, jackals, etc. (all types of canines) were all created as separate species during the week of "creation" versus gradual changes from a common ancestor over thousands/millions of years? Just the fact that some of these different species can interbreed but some cannot or have sterile offspring proves (to me) that DNA and chromosomes and so forth do indeed change over time, and new species are developed in this manner, over a very long timeline in most cases. If you've ever fished, let's consider the sunfish family. We have bluegills, red breasted sunfish, green sunfish, pumpkin seeds, etc.etc. etc. and some species are so close it takes DNA examination to tell the difference. Or bass - large mouth, small mouth, shoal bass, etc.etc. about a dozen variations totaled with more being discovered/misidentified all the time. New hybrid species can be created from species who have DNA that is just slightly different - so to me it's obvious that they all came from a common ancestor. Sorry but I can't picture god creating a dozen variations of the same fish (all separate species) at the same time. How about African cichlids? Over a hundred different species in Lake Victoria alone. Sorry but god creating all of them at the same time doesn't make as much sense as gradual change, and they all have a common ancestor which could through DNA research might lead back to a common ancestor. Call me crazy, but the simplest explanation (gradual change through adaptation to a changing environment) is usually correct.

Have I ever claimed I believed in "a week of creation"?

Perhaps you didn't, but whether it's a week, a month, or years there's nothing supernatural involved and it certainly did not happen as per the bible. God didn't parade newly created pictures past adam while he named them. Supposedly Adam lived to be around 900 years - and it would have taken that long just to name every....damn...species & subspecies of every creature on this planet. BTW this cracks me up - god said when adam ate from the tree of knowledge ON THAT DAY HE WILL SURELY DIE. And then he goes on live to be 900 years old! Oh, wait...adam died spiritually not literally, and if I had faith & understanding I would see that. :dayton: Seriously though, didn't anyone writing/reading the bible not take a step back and say "whoa! This doesn't make sense! It's a major contradiction!" Yes I get that as for creating animals back in the bronze age most people never left their region so they didn't know about polar bears/kangaroos/beavers/etc. that didn't live in bible country. But anyone can figure out "you will die today/you will live 900 years" is a total football bat of crazy.

That's pretty hysterical coming from a guy who's been hospitalized twice in recent months because drug resistant bacteria is trying to eat his foot. Were evolution not "all around us," then the antibiotics developed 30+ years ago would have completely knocked out that infection in your foot at the first sign of trouble.

Unfortunately I did not go to the doctor at the "first sign of trouble". I went almost a week later.

Personally my feet have evolved into flippers - I'll have a "leg up" when the oceans rise from global warming! Wait I guess that would be a "fin up" instead. Next I'll work on Water World gills!

Even so, those antibiotics would have taken care of the problem, in all likelihood. One of the most common sites for being infected by drug-resistant bacteria is at a medical facility. So you might have picked up your particular infection because someone you were around had been to the doctor or hospital recently. There's no way of knowing the source for that infection, and its possible that it was bacteria which had developed immunity to a previous antibiotic which you'd been on that caused the infection. And the reason it developed said immunity is because of evolution.

Would you believe I've never touched a cow in my life? I can't stand farm animals. Wild animals are cool, but not goats & pigs & cows & whatnot.
