I'm a Christian because I believe that I have committed sins and I want the forgiveness of God and mercy in the afterlife.

Not because I want to elevate the poor of society to higher station.

This post is taken out of context because the second line is in reply to a the assertion that somehow the highest duty of a Christian is to care for the poor.

While I believe this to be a good thing, as my first line in reply states, I believe that personal salvation is the most important reason for becoming a Christian.

This position is perfectly reasonable and defensible.

And hardly "idiotic" as that jerk Ed maintains.

This was the second one in the thread by We Are Borg.

It was in response to someone claiming I was a violent person. I was simply pointing out that the worst thing I had ever done with violence was upon the orders of my supervisors. It wasn't something I initiated on my own.

Note, roughly the same people that bitch and moan about this are the same ones who routinely condemn me for NOT doing what I was told to do by my supervisors at other later jobs.

Can you run that by me again? $100,000 is not something a persons family can live on very long. I figured I would get my 29 years of teaching in and then if something happened to me my full pension would go to my wife (or my daughter if Amy is deceased).
