Or rather, Tony Stark's replacement! I can't wait to see the conserva-nerd meltdown over this one, with cries of "PC gone mad". http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-36731596
I was never a big fan of Ironman anyway. Though the Ironman theme from the first movie was always very cool
Actually, I think it's going to be rather entertaining seeing Marvel's sales continuing to slide downhill due to their pandering to a crowd that doesn't really have much interest in buying their comic books anyway.
Yeah, Marvel is clearly heading towards bankruptcy. Female Thor is absolutely amazing, btw. If you like comics and aren't reading it fir whatever reason, you're doing yourself a disservice.
Maybe not, but their sales are dropping. I honestly don't have a dog in this race, but I do enjoy seeing the reaction to "social justice" being pushed by comic books by actual comic book fans. And that reaction seems to be that an increasing number of them are giving up on those comic books.
Didn't DC beat them to it by having Steel's niece take over for him at one point? She got a suit, anyways.
Cue the we are not racist or sexist but......nerdracistsexist rage. It should not even be an issue. Though I do like the in your face diversity which makes the prejudiced people whine in pain, it is a bit of a publicity stunt that is taking advantage of the current racial and sexist issues that are at the front of society today. I just hope it is a good story and doesn't become some preachy PSA. Either way it is good to remind white guys that just because you live in your little nerd hole where black people and girls don't want to go, it does not mean you can exist in an all white boy world.
I do have a bit of a question. Are there any black girls involved with this production, or is this going to be what some white guys think black girls think sort of shit going on? If you are going to be diverse shouldn't you actually have some diverse influence going on?
You clearly do, but you think your own biased perspective is the correct and unbiased one. Now go ahead, post some anime or rant about "SJWs" until your fingers bleed.
If it's done to take advantage of great storytelling opportunities, it might turn out well. If it's just done to be different or get attention . . . it probably won't. What's this Civil War II about, anyway? Because if it involves politics and registration, putting a Chicagoan in the lead role just lets the jokes tell themselves
There's just been a movie out and they need to sell current product instead of trades of the original storyline?
I'll just make the same complaint I do every time a comic book hero is blackwashed to increase minority representation. Marvel already has some cool, and often interesting minority characters they can use. Such as Bishop, Storm, Blade, or career badass Luke Cage. Put a little more effort into them to keep them relevant, or do the unheard of thing and create some new worthwhile characters.
The stories are already getting long in the tooth. Between the tired scenes of "cities getting laid to waste while immortal supergods battle each other" and massive amounts of CGI, immersions in these movies is getting harder and harder to keep. It'll probably still make money, but all good things must come to an end. This looks to be a sign of that.
Agreed. Its getting to the point that there are no characters left who have their original backstory in place or who hasnt been duplicated with someone else wearing the outfit. Enough already.
This is just another sales gimmick, nothing more. A few issues with fill-in-the-blank in the main character's role and then another HUGE EVENT THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING! later it's back to the status quo. Oh, and please note that when "Marvel is going downhill" is mentioned, we're talking about the comics, not the movies.
You're either high on paint thinner, or you don't read very good comic books. Because this... ...and this... are CRAP with a capital C. It's virtue signaling at an obnoxious level, and the fact that it's using a long-standing franchise as its personal soapbox is exponentially more obnoxious. Apparently it's too difficult for the SJW's at Marvel to make a whole new franchise with some feminist heroine who smashes the patriarchy, or whatever other windmill they're tilting at. They instead have to "prog-out" on a long-standing white male character and morph him into a diversity quota character. Then they do victory laps as though they accomplished something other than being a transparent moral crusader galloping to liberate their own progressive Jerusalem.
Too true, but there's little in the way of minorities BTS in Hollywood. That will probably change in the coming decades, but I can be happy with the fact that the types of roles available to black women are expanding.
"I'm not racist or sexist, but here are my impassioned criticisms of selected comics involving women or minority characters! Next week when a classic hero is replaced by a white male legacy character, expect me to be conspicuously silent!" That's the basic complaint, right?
Well, I think this argument is bullshit. They aren't changing any characters. Tony isn't becoming Tina. The woman in the armour is an entirely new character. This isn't like having a female James Bond.
Yeah, I'm sure it's not just that a change was made to a legacy character, it's totally because of racism and sexism. I mean, it's not like there was another major change to a legacy character recently that also has the nerd rage frothing or anything... Hail Hydra.
Sounds like it. Comics aren't my thing, but there are many more black and Hispanic kids and girls coming into the various series and I agree with GTC that there's already a plethora of superheros that haven't been interpreted and reinvented a hundred times that deserve focus. But since Marvel/DC and Hollywood isn't gonna bank on them, I don't mind radical reinvention of the moneymaking superheroes.
