Why do commentators make such a big deal about Trumps children and their glowing descriptions of him?
I mean come on. If I was running for president I’m sure my daughter and wife would say things just as glowing about me. And even assuming its all true, what does it matter? Ronald Reagan was despised by his two younger children. FDR was poorly regarded by his children overall. Jimmy Carter was beloved by his children. What relationship does being an adored father have to do with being a good president?

Secondly, what is the big deal about Hillary Clinton’s running mate Tim Kaine knowing how to speak Spanish? To me hyping this ability illustrate a rather provincial attitude if not out right racism against Hispanic Americans. It makes it sound like Hispanics are some kind of ghettoized group living in homelands in the U.S. isolated from American society. I’ve met lots of people of Mexican descent and even those who are undocumented speak English quite well.
Ignoring the fact that millions of white and black Americans can speak Spanish and many didn’t even have to take the high school level course to do so.
