I'm not convinced there has ever been a character like Dayton on Trek. Reg Barclay is the only obvious coward in Trek, and aside from his cowardice he was actually good at his job.
Ha ha ha ha. That's brilliant. If only I'd known I'd have kept those magazines as I had the editions linked to in that thread and it wasn't easy to get them in the UK.

Dayton proving he has now war fetish while wishing for folks to "get what's coming to them".

Ha ha. This guy had Dayton cracked 22 years ago. :rotfl:

Two decades of being told how odious his opinions are and it still doesn't sink in. :unuts:

    So far, not a problem...

Given your employment history, you're already diverging from your initial objective now. So, on the surface, like you?

Okay, no problems with a lack of criticisms, but to be a Trek character he will have his beliefs challenged, as that's part and parcel of Trek, usually with storylines designed to highlight inconsistencies or to have the character show personal growth over the series.

Take Archer, he started off as a bigot and through the series grew and recognised some of his views were incorrect.

If you want the character to be set in stone and never change, well that's not Trek.

Gotta love it when the "If you don't like intolerance, that means you're intolerant!" schtick comes out.

As arguments go, it's about one step removed from "I'm rubber, you're glue." A better fit for a kindergarten playground fight than for any kind of actual discussion. Why social conservatives keep acting like it's some kind of unbelievably clever "gotcha" is beyond me.

Would anyone like to hear any of my other ideas for a new Star Trek that promotes my conservative ideas?

    1. The Enterprise arrives on a planet where homosexuality is frequent. By the introduction of Christianity to the natives the crew are able to improve the situation and homosexuality is made punishable by death.

    2. The Cardassians complain about a new Federation installation on one of their planets. They get what's coming to them when the Enterprise destroys four of their vessels in response.

    3. The captain leads the bridge crew in a prayer when they are in the middle of losing a space battle with the Borg. Afterwards they defeat the Borg easily.

    4. All ten of the bridge crew (white Christian males) go missing, leaving a black man in charge of the Enterprise. He makes several mistakes and the ship is in danger until the white crew members unexpectedly return to save the day.

    All for now.

They probably use the holodeck for the Kobayashi Maru test these days instead of a simulator. Didn't Nog take some holodeck tests flying a Runabout in combat? And the DS9 comics had season 1 Sisko replay Wolf 359 over and over until he convinced himself that nothing would have prevented the Borg victory.

But Dayton would see holodeck simulated battles as mere masturbation, and we know what the Bible has to say about that. Though it's fine with fucking your handmaiden if your wife is barren and she's cool with it.

You know, with all the battles Dayton has his autistic Carson Tower in, if the bridge had black lights it would look like a Jackson Pollack painting.

Just how many battles has there been in my fanfiction about Carson Tower Ed?

Looking at the thread where I've written I can only count a handful at most. And one of those referred to was Tower and his three companions trying to hijack a spacecraft to escape the people who shot them down.

At a quick glance, of those that are more than a few sentences. 8 out of 17 or so mention some sort of battles or fights.

Actually, it would be interesting if Star Trek had a more conservative character in the crew, but only if (1) the character was not a silly stereotype and (2) the character had valid and compelling arguments.

In the 1970s, the comic book Green Lantern became Green Lantern/Green Arrow for a while. It added the more liberal Green Arrow to play off the more conservative Green Lantern. While the series was highly acclaimed and did have some very memorable storylines, it's ultimately not as good as it could've been because Green Arrow--expressing the writer's own political viewpoint--was usually proven correct, and Green Lantern often laughably wrong. Some critics call the series Green Arrow/Straw Man for that reason.

In a good drama, the conservative character would offer a counterpoint--sometimes in opposition to the prevailing ideals--that would be valid and have merit (Garrick did this well on DS9, particularly so in "In the Pale Moonlight"). Even if good ol' liberal ideals win out in the end, the leads should at least be troubled that the conservative character had a point. Of course, that's a two way street: the conservative character should question some of his own beliefs as he spends time with the crew.

What does that have to do with masturbation?

I know I'm not an expert in sexual matters but I thought masturbation involved only one person.

No genius. I decided to use a library computer to fill out online applications. The library computers actually work reliably and fast (unlike mine) after I finished I decided to post as many times as I can in my limited time here. Which is coming to an end in a few minutes or less.

Yes, but in fairness to Yahweh :diacanu: it seems that Onan's crime is not masturbation, but rather his deliberate failing to impregnate his dead brother's wife. (Onan did not honor his father's command that he impregnate Tamar, because any offspring produced--which would be considered his brother's--would receive the inheritance from the father, whereas if Tamar never had children, Onan would inherit.)

Onan was basically taking advantage of the tradition to father a child in his dead brothers name to prevent his brothers inheritance from passing out of the family, in order to have sex with his former sister in law.

In short, what Onan was guilty of could be considered rape in modern times as he induced his former sister in law to have sex under false pretenses.

You realize that last post argument completely invalidates the "traditional marriage" BS you and your ilk have been spewing off? That the ideas of marriage has changed considerably in 2000 or so years?

For one, the idea of a marry marrying a widowed sister in law to keep wealth in the family.

The idea of arranged marriages, that were still not unheard of well into the roaring 20s.

    Shit like that.
