Why? I'm discussing nuBSG, and how some aspects of the remake are unacceptable to me. Is this a Canadian, or a Mexican?
It's a legitimate question, I assure you. Lee is played by a British actor, and flashback Zak by a Canadian. But Bill is a Mexican?
Are you seriously going to tell me that it's trolling to discuss the race of various actors in a rebooted television series, or the implications of certain casting decisions? Will that be a blanket policy across all of Media Central? I think it'd be more thematically relevant if Adamant didn't have any biological children. That'd put him on the same footing as Roslin and the Final Five, none of whom had natural offspring. But Adam and Moses had kids, so whatever.
So Starbuck's a woman in this. Dirk Benedict had strong feelings about the how we lost the war against masculinity because of this stunt casting. I agree. Women have no role in combat and it's show glorified putting women in harms way. Fighting wars should be left to Mexicans and other minorities. I'm glad they at least cast a Mexican in the role of Adama. Though I'm surprised he was able to achieve such high rank despite his racial disability.
That was only due to his then-wife pulling some strings for him, I believe. Probably to make up for cuckolding him.
So.... Anyone else wonder why nuTigh wasn't Black like the original? I think Ron Moore gets a lot of credit (rightly so) for fleshing out his female characters, but his black characters really get the short end of the stick. Tigh gets whitewashed, Dee is a third wheel, Simon is the second least developed Cylon... What's up with that?
I didn't see the original, but I wouldn't call Dee a third wheel for being black. I think they didn't know what to do with her, much like Callie.
I mean her character ended up just being a third wheel in the Lee/Kara story. Sam was something of a third wheel as well, but his character had a lot more going on in addition to that. Dee was mostly just a prop.
On the other hand I never recognized any family resemblance between Adama and Hot Dogs until it was pointed out to me so.
Well, they did their best to keep them apart. I'm pretty sure they didn't actually speak to each other until Daybreak.
I thought one of the ideas in the original Battlestar: Galactica was that Adama and Tigh were a team and that Starbuck and Boomer literally mirrored them. One white. One black. The white guy more impulsive and emotional. The black guy more methodical and calculating.
With blue contacts. It would be interesting to know whether they cast him because he was better than the others who read for the rule. Laurence Olivier played Othello. James Earl Jones played Lear (not to mention blond Luke Skywalker's Daddy). Nontraditional casting is as old as theater. Get over yourself.
Exactly. In the show Lee's mother was about as white as you can get. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0421087/
You bet your ass he was better then everybody else. EJO is one of the finest American actors around, who unfortunately according to the rumor mill, had his career torpedoed early on by Harvey Keitel due to Lorraine Bracco leaving him for EJO.
The casting for BSG was a travesty. Even if you stayed with Edward James Olmos: Apollo should have been played by John Stamos, who is Greek. Laura Roslin should have been played by Susan Sarandon, who is Greek. Starbuck should have been played by Jennifer Aniston (Anastassakis), who is Greek. Dr. Baltar should have been played by Anthimos Ananiadis, who is Greek Greek. Boomer should have been played by Maria Menounos, who is Greek. Six should have been played by Mena Suvari, who is Greek. Tigh should have been played by Bill Zane, who is Greek. Chief Tyrol should have been played by Zach Galifianakis, who is Greek. Helo should have been played by Apostolis Totsikas, who is Greek Greek. Dualla should have been played by Tiny Fey, who is Greek. Anders should have been played by Costas Mandylor, who is Greek Greek. Tory Foster should have been played by Marie Avgeropoulos, who is Greek. Notice a kind of theme?
