There's signs everywhere, and there are well known springs nearby that you can bathe in, but I don't think any of them are in Yellowstone. The ones near old faithful certainly aren't safe, that's why they smell like sulfur and bubble.
It's sad, but it does remind me of this quote from Terry Pratchett: "Some humans would do anything to see if it was possible to do it. That reminds me of one of my favorite trips. In it Morgan Freeman (aka God) guided me along through an x-com terror from the deep cruise ships to a secret room above the theater where they kept the button that stopped the universe. So I pushed it. That was the end of that particular delusion. There are just simply concepts a sober and chemically balanced mind does not do.
Do not forget 212 degrees acid water. The heat would certainly help the process. Those last few seconds of life must have been really painful. Worst of all they are probably going to delete the video when it would make a really good psa to play at the tourist locations.
The shocking part was that when she saw her brother fall in, she screamed, rushed to the edge of the hot spring, and dumped in all their carrots and potatoes.
I wonder about how quick it was. The brain and nerves are insulated from the heat. You might have a good thirty seconds or more of pain. What is even worse is the brain releases chemicals that can make your perception of time stretch. This is why some people see extreme stressful moments in slow motionm. Your mind is capable of it, and some drugs can give you the experience. So you might be stretching it out into a long painful death.
Yeah, but your brain releases endorphins that relieve the pain, I'm guessing no longer than a few minutes in that situation.
On Liveleak, you can see a guy get burned to death by a mob (they set him of fire). There actually isn't as much thrashing around and wailing as you'd expect. After a few seconds, the guy just sorta goes limp, and that's pretty much it. I imagine if you fall into a boiling, acidic pool, you go into shock pretty damned quick.
Drowning or strangling takes a lot longer. I'd much rather die in a fire ( yeah, ha ha) than drown. The best we can hope for is to die in your sleep.
Good thread! Nature kicking the ass of stupid fucking humans warms my heart! I spend a lot of time outdoors - thus I respect the shit out of nature. When people do stupid things in the natural/outdoor world and lose, I point & laugh. Nature transcends all the petty stupid things us humans do, as it should be.
I get what you're saying and I agree for the most part, but for probably the first time, I agree with @Tererun, I don't like seeing people suffer. Unless your last name is Hitler, Stallin, Bin Ladin, Manson...etc.
