If you're talking about Muad, what really drove him off was the linking to Twitter thing. He thought it would link back to his RL and he jumped ship. He hated Anc but it was that which pushed him away more than the possibility of abuse IMO.

We're doing what we should've done and not rushing into things again. Unless you'd rather we keep doing that, because that didn't work the first time.

I'm fine with unbending Faceman. What he said was thoroughly despicable in every sense of the word, but people are right, it's the RedRoom, where we allow people to be complet ass clowns for the most part. Note, it has never been completely free reign in there, but we can set that aside.

@Jan Jansen has it right, people need to step back for a few days, let some of the toxicity drain from the swamp.

I don't think those who want to see Wordforge continue as it generally has been over the last decade and more can really afford to just let things quiet down. Doing so gives the admins an opportunity to bury the issue and latter carry out what appears to be a dramatic shift in the core philosophy of Wordforge. From a free and open loosely moderated political board towards something more resembling TrekBBS. The admins haven't completely forgotten about the history of the board have they?

This manufactured issue with Gturner has been a complete clusterfuck from step one. The pathetic excuses for his "not ban" then eventual full ban have been built up over the past few days into some epic legend of Gtuner the SuperEnterpriser Troll! Beware his complex dark web of lies and deceit! It all just looks laughably bad and in the end it's just that Gul has a grudge and doesn't like the atmosphere of Wordforge anymore. Coupled with an admin blue wall for some reason.

At this point we shouldn't accept anything else than the complete dismantling of the Violet Room and a full unbanning for Gturner with all his privileges returned.

I don't even think the admins have really thought through this whole Wordforge transformation hard-on they're currently sporting. Lets forget for a moment that the worrying trend for online discussion is consolidation into a handful of data mining companies. But otherwise there's thousands of generic moderated political forums out there. What would Wordforge offer if it was just the same as them? It's the loosely moderated slant that puts the site in the minority and it's only real selling point.

Frankly I think there doesn't have to be wholesale change. With the exception of the obvious person, I think most of you are capable of humility and learning. So really it would only need one or two newbies perhaps. John should be left to do the tech stuff and not be expected to be the WF press secretary, and otherwise I'd look to someone like spaceturkey, Tuckerfan, Packard, Krieg, Mrs Albert or someone else similar in personality. Someone that's pretty reasonable, balanced, humble and has a good amount of common sense. I do appreciate there isn't an infinite supply of such people.

You've also got to listen to the membership. Your biggest mistake by far when deciding that the board needed changes was that you didn't have any sort of lengthy consultation process. Not everyone is going to agree with everything, but at the very least when looking to make changes the most sensible thing to do is take the pulse of the people you are currently dependant on to keep the place alive...and to earn you support from those posters who are more reasonable.

I disagree. The place didn't turn into the Free Republic, despite or because of us having much fewer rules. On the other hand, racism was rampant at least seven years before, with the usual suspects celebrating the body count of the second Iraq War. We've always had the good and the bad of free speech, and it has mostly worked.

That is not to say we should be completely laissez-faire; posters that are only here to deliberately break the place sometimes need to go, because anything can be broken if you set your mind to it. But that is rare. Castle was such a case, and in my opinion, it would have made sense to ban Sokar before he could collect a half-dozen posters he drove away on his little kill list. Gturner I am unsure about, but I don't miss him, and someone needs to make these calls at the end of the day.

But the further changes @gul is hinting at sound like they abandon the experiment, and that would be a crying shame.

I agree, the admins should take a step back - by unbanning gturner. That would go a long ways toward draining the toxicity from the swap, since, after all, this has been the root cause of all of the toxicity.

There might be reasons to unban him, but one of the prices of doing so would be to drastically increase the toxicity, just as he did before.
