What Will Democrats Do If Donald Trump Changes Parties...Again?

Say Donald Trump after a particularly big dust up with Congressional Republicans in 2019 or so announces that he is running for reelection in 2020....as a Democrat.

It is obvious what the Republican Party will do. Attempt to nominate someone relatively sane and probably breathe a sigh of relief.

What do the Democrats do though?

 

He'd have to win the nomination first.

 

Of course. But in general, a sitting president seldom gets serious opposition from his own party in running for renomination. the most recent really serious one was Carter vs. Kennedy in 1980.

 

In general, Presidents aren't manifestly unqualified sexual predators, either.

 

He hasn't even taken office yet and you're already calling him a RINO? Why did you idiots elect him if you don't want him?

 

If somehow he won the nomination, I would look at his 4 years in office and decide based on his performance as president.

 

I've never voted for him in any capacity.

 

The Donald would do that in less than a heartbeat if it knew it would get it a 2nd term in the White House.

Trump is a creature driven by its hyper-ego & is the worst most horrible & offensive narcissistic grandstander of our time.

Trump's bottom line, the only thing it cares about, is TRUMP!

 

They'd run Hillary against him, or wheel Bernie out in his oxygen tent.

Considering how many Dems just voted for Hillary - who embodies everything Democrats supposedly hated the past 16 years - I wouldn't be surprised if they all voted for Trump.

Sanders is all of 5 years older than Trump, and I'd suspect in far better health.

Definitely less likely to have a cocaine caused coronary in the next 4 years.

I supported Bernie in the primary. But I don't think Hillary was that bad. My politics are further to the left than either of them.

@Senor Hoint is not, I'm certain, a Democrat. And most certainly not "unfortunate". He's a bright and knowledgeable guy --- certainly no fool.

He and I and others regularly put the boots to Hillary but good on the now-defunct Volconvo, you'd better believe it. And on precisely the grounds you state.

However, it's the tragedy of modern America that thoughtful people usually end up voting strategically: for the lesser of evils, to keep the truly evil out of office.

Thus Senor Hoint voted the hell for Hillary godammit, as I would have if I were American.

It's a travesty that the only two electable candidates a country of some 325 million people could cough up were Hillary and Foaming Don.
