For those who have not seen it I will describe it for you as I recently went on safari into what we now call triumpland. First off, I went in disguise as a white man. I had my camouflage shorts, my walking dead t-shirt, sandals, and my tattoos. I look like your typical southern rock band guy with long hair. You get off the main highway and things are not much different from your normal southern or Floridian town. You have your gas stations, a couple of hotels, and some fast food places. Maybe some outlet stores or a Wal-Mart. Things seem ok until you look a little closer and deeper. Unlike the south the staff in most of these establishments is white non Hispanic. Now normally you run into this in the south on occasion, but there are black people around nearby. Not here. It is stealth because you are off the highway and there are black and Hispanic customers. You don't quite notice the difference if you are not looking. So now I start going inland. There is a nice road cut into the white Sandy jungle. As I get further inland I notice a change in the local transportation. The normal 25 percent pickup truck ration has gone up to around forty percent, and the tires and suspension are getting higher and higher on a lot of them. The normal Ford F150 is now looking more like a shiny monster truck than a pickup truck. You will start noticing a difference as you get about ten miles away from the highway. The gas stations and hotels who normally have black or brown people working there are staffed by white people. Wal-Mart has a white people working for it. You start playing the spot the white guy game and you do not rack up any points. There are no more black streets with low rent housing. The streets are there, but the white people are on them. This is not like the south in places like georgia, Alabama, or even racist Mississippi. There are black and Hispanic people in those places. They have their neighborhoods and you do run into them. No, this area is bleached of the colored people. For all their talk about how much better they are there are still chain link fences around their property. The properties are still run down. There is still crime. There are still fearful people with guns. There are still all the bad things that exist everywhere else, but there are no brown people for miles. There are no Muslims for miles. There are no Hispanics for miles. There is no reason for those people to go there because they have no family or friends there. This is the white bubble and it still sucks. This is not the sort of place @oldfella1962 lives. I have been in backwoods georgia and there are black people there. This is segregated white America. This was built in areas no one lived in by people fleeing the areas of the south where black people lived and could not be removed. This is not an uncommon town in Florida, it is just not normally seen because you do not have any reason to go there except to live in an all white Christian gun loving place.
I can relate! True, many Georgia small towns (other than in the north Georgia mountains) are black Mayberry. An entire small town full of white people who have made "bad choices" and whose kids will make "bad choices" scares the living dog-shit out of me. As for loving guns? That's not an issue. Forbin loves guns.....there is zero chance of him harming you. Guns don't kill people......crazy meth-head white-trash kill people. Okay, as it relates to Florida. Tererun you need to hang around people in the south who have guns but are not dangerous - like 99 percent of the population. Every fucking home has guns - but are gainfully employed and have no criminal record (or at least no felonies). Don't let those white-trash enclaves give you a bad impression - nobody likes those places. I sure wouldn't live there if you paid me! Seriously, there is not one fast food or motel or convenience store within 150 miles of Augusta that isn't staffed by brown or black people. All white? In the South? That would freak me out.
Isn't Florida one of those states that tries to pretend its not in the south? Like Texas pretends to be a western state and not a southern state.
Texas totally has it both ways - parts are southern and parts are western. The eastern wetter part is very much southern - the western part is very much part of the desert southwest. It's a complicated state to be honest.
This. Most of the state has more in common with the West and Southwest than it does with the rest of the former Confederate states. I'd be happy to cede the parts of the state that are more like the Old South (deep East Texas) to Louisiana.
Though I lived in Texas for several years this is something I've never understood:? Do most Texans classify everything from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex to Texarkana as "East Texas"?
We loved Tyler when we lived there. Even though it is reportedly one of the most dangerous cities in Texas for pedestrians and cyclists. Though one of the best for drivers. The two are probably related.
Native-Americans aren't tripping over themselves trying to excuse or whitewash that part of their history. The Cherokee nation also paid reparations to their former slaves. Thanks for playing.
Reparations at the time may have made sense, but reparations in 2017 to people who are far removed from slavery and have no living ancestors who were slaves makes no sense whatsoever. You would have to go back to the 1960s for it to remotely make any sense.
