So the Donald has flown in twice to his southern Florida estate to play golf in Florida. He has been on the job for how long? So according to the local aviation businesses his last trip cost them 270000 dollars in revenue. These are not the big airlines. These are the small pilot trainers and local flyers. Donald could play his golf in dc on military sites. This would not drain local small businesses of revenue and cost extra money on security. They are fixing this problem to a small degree by building the Donald a helicopter pad so he can golf here more easily. Did Obama pull this crap? Worse yet is if we believe he is a billionaire he could pay that money back easily. It would be like you having a thousand dollars and paying a quarter and two pennies out of it to get them their money back. You would spend a larger percentage of your money at metered parking for two hours or less. Where are the fiscally conservative republicans who complained every time Obama played golf at the air force base? They don't say a word even though trump is killing small businesses and the local economy so he can play in southern Florida. This has been twice now since his election.
You're not going to hear a peep about it from conservative media in any light other than spun as well-deserved rest from hard work making America great again.
He also takes every opportunity to pimp Mar-a-Lago in his tweets about hosting dignitaries, but sure he's divested from his businesses. Incidentally, Mar-a-Lago just put their membership fees up.
The GOP don't really care about using taxpayer money to pay for stuff as long as it's them getting it. All that time they don't spend in Congress? On your dime. Same with the drinks at the bar, I'd imagine. When we had the politicians' expenses scandal here in the UK, it was used as a stick to beat specific people but they were all at it. Meanwhile, the rules on using my taxpayer-funded project money for meals/expenses at project meetings require me to ensure there aren't more internal personnel than visitors in case it looks like we're having a jolly... Even if the budget will allow it (and any underspend has to be returned anyway)...
Did anyone expect something different? Trump sees himself as some kind of king. And that's how he's acting, with the decrees, the lone decisions, the nepotism... This will be his downfall.
Or it will strengthen his position with the "right" people. There's no way to tell. I've seen his downfall foretold hundreds of times, and each time he survives, and in some cases thrives.
In one of the many trump threads, even @oldfella1962 seems to be wavering in his support for Trump already. We are only in Feb, this is going to get worse. USA have elected a complete idiot of a man. Fine to have policies that half the electorate dont directly support, thats always going to happen, but the lack of dialogue and compromise with anyone, not being able to take critisism and responding with attacks via social media, alternative facts, policies deemed illegal, teenage like strops when he doesn't get his own way. Its just a crazy way for the potus to behave. #President bawbag indeed
Ladbrokes are only offering even money on Trump stepping down or being forced from office. Paddy Power have impeachment at just 4 to 1 odds. Was there any betting on Obama being impeached?
Yes, it's heartening at first glance. But as I pointed out in the Reichstag thread, all Donald needs is a Disaster that scares the shit out of everybody --- then even the doubters will line up their behind their Saviour. The best part is that he probably won't even have to lift a finger. ISIS will probably give it to him as a birthday present or something.
I honestly see this as the same as conservatives whining every time Obama went golfing. It is hypocritical that they are fine with Donald doing the same. I am reminded of how Reagan always took trips to his ranch in Santa Barbara or how Bush Sr always went to Kennebunkport or how Bush Jr was always going to his ranch in TX. Pot meet kettle.
IS... yea maybe. If they still can (they certainly cannot repeat a 9/11 type event). But the Trumpist cabal? Nah. To pull something like that off from the inside they'd have to be dug in very deeply in the 'establishment'. They made sure the 'establishment' hates them with the intensity of 10.000 suns. None of these people are networked where it counts to even dream of it.
In his defense, oldfella wasn't a fan of Trump so much as he was a fan of seeing liberals getting pissed off and not having Hilary in office.
I'm gonna go on a limb and say no one here is giving a shit about how often he golfs. They're just pointing out all the teeth gnashing that went on about Obama's family vacations to Hawaii (which didn't happen within his first 100 days in office) yet his trips to Mar-a-Lago are ruining the local economy and Melanie staying in Trump Tower is sucking NYC's budget dry and no one is saying boo diddly dick about that. And hey, I get it....if my abuser was gonna be six hours away from me, I wouldn't jump at the bit to move in around him, either. But it's a disgusting double standard.
Which is another way of driving home the point that Hillary lost the election more than Donald won it.
Depends what they did. They can't hijack planes. (Indeed, one of the things that make current airport security so ridiculous is what the "Pennsylvania plane" proved: by the end of the morning, what they're still looking for no longer mattered ---- the passengers had heard of the three previous crashes and damned near got back control of that aircraft.) Anyway, speaking of Pennsylvania, a few years after 911, a train-freak friend and I drove up from Altoona to the famous (among train-geeks) "Horseshoe Curve", which winds around the city reservoir. We got to talking about how easy it would be to hurl enough deadly poison into that reservoir to kill large numbers of people in Altoona, or all the other things you could do if you really wanted to terrorize the populace. After all, more raw terror was probably caused along the US Atlantic seaboard by the anthrax scare than by 911 itself. Or if you blew out the power-station reservoirs on the American or Canadian side of the Niagara River you would throw the northeastern US into chaos. The economy would falter and -- especially if you pulled off a couple of similar things all over all at the same time -- people would get panicky. And read William Langewiesche's Atomic Bazaar on how to build your own nuclear bomb. Sobering. Well one of the reasons I never had time for 911 being an inside job (no matter how useful to Boy George) was (1) Al-Qaeda was all too plausible and (2) the Busheviks were simply too incompetent to pull it off. Just look at Iraq --- that's the whole story right there. But ISIS isn't part of the Establishment either. You don't need to be. See above.
If I was president I wouldn't bother spending my time golfing. Bowling on the other hand...... Doesn't the White House have its own bowling alley?
Best you're gonna get is "oh yeah? Well this is why you're made of ka-ka! (Insert anecdote about how your not rolling over and dying hurts his widdwe feewings) ".
He was never a serious contender for the office of the President, either. He was never going to get past the first debates. He was never going to get the support of the GOP. He was never going to get the approval of the Electoral College. What works in his favor is that he does so much, and in such rapid fire succession, that the media can't keep up with him, and by the time they do, he's already moved on to something else. The water is so muddy right now that people don't know what's true and what isn't. This administration excels at gaslighting, at obfuscation, and that will continue to give them an edge in the foreseeable future. He's not going to step down, as some people hope he'll do, and he's not going to temper his actions. If anything, he'll just find better spin doctors and make it seem like everything has gotten better, because Trump cares more about appearance than anything else. The sad part is that many in the electorate care more about normalcy than they do defending the rights of people they don't know or care about. This is a deadly combination.
First of all, golf is really dumb. Personally I think it's a huge waste of time, but I understand that for some it's a good form of recreation that they otherwise wouldn't get. Second of all, I'm going to hold off on judging Trump's golf habits because it's been less than a month. If his fortnightly golf trips become regular, then yeah, fuck him. He would be a hyuge hypocrite after all the times he criticized Obama's golf trips. Plus there are many, many other things that he is fucking up far worse than a resort town's local economy.
I'm with John. I will believe his downfall once he hops onto Marine One at noon the day after his resignation or impeachment and not one second sooner.
You need to do better than this bullshit. First, thank you for being trump apologist. I am pretty sure you will have quite the number of hand problems by 2020 with your blind defence of the worst of the deplorables. If you knew reading comprehension you might have realised I is not actually the golfing that is the problem. It is the golfing in an area where he is destroying small businesses with his presence. These businesses have lost 270000 dollars in revenue so the Donald can golf in this one place he wants to. This does not include the costs of local security for his visit. He can golf in other places. He can golf on air force's bases who have built in security and no business will lose money. However, he doesn't. Oh, and please do explain to all of us the costs to local businesses for your examples because in am pretty sure they are not as devastating as they are in this case. Especially considering the Bush family probably has a pretty secure compound with ways to get to it. This is something the Donald does not have set up. Oh wait, I forgot I am talking to dinner who is now second biggest dolt around now that gturner is permabanned and the frogtards are off necroing his threads.
Given their whining during the Obama years they should have loved Hillary. She doesn't golf and Obama's golfing really pissed them off.
Ok you do not need to make ominous omens about the world's end by saying something I agree with. Yes, I do think the white house has its own lanes. Obama was probably afraid to use them given the flack he took for sacking a white ball around with a stick. Could you imagine the shit show had he knocked down ten white pins with a black ball? There were enough claims he was committing white genocide without all of that.
