So I finally have seen this guy and it is clear this guy is a characterization of homosexuals that fits what the right wing wants gays to be. Leaving out the liberal hate, if you acted like this guy in most gay circles most people would avoid or mock you. Milo is what the alt right wants to see gay people as because if they were like this they would not make progress in getting people to change their minds about homosexuals. It is not that gays like Milo do not exist, but rather they are either really unpopular, or they are young and have no idea about who they are so they adopt this stereotype. He is about as real as a professional wrestler or reality tv star. Given his position I would have to say there is a nefarious purpose behind the act. The right wing media is notorious for using characterisations of a member of a community to bad mouth that community and behave badly. Milo is their gay guy. He is offensive to everyone and parrots their talking lie points about the gay community and liberals. Since most of the alt right doesn't get out and meet gays they only have Milo to go by. Milo is part of their bubble because meeting or seeing normal gays shatters their reality. It is a sign they are lost when they have to make up characters to fit their narrative because they cannot find people like that otherwise.
For all his posturing as the ultimate badass troll, I can't say I've ever heard anything particularly original or outrageous from him. It's all the same old tired crap we've been getting from right-wing culture warriors for the past 30-40 years, just repackaged in sequins and glitter.
What he does is nothing special - he insults and trolls people that he knows are going to be easily insulted. I mean making university students upset? Way to go brah, however did you do that? The fact that he targets low hanging fruit and takes the path of least resistance doesn't really make him particularly noteworthy or a trail blazer like he thinks he is, nor is it the sign of an overly mature individual (which is why he appeals to the video gaming crowd). The fact that most of the base he's trying to target fucking hate his lifestyle is kind of amusing too. It's the idiots on the left that keep lining his pockets though.
He's a gay man who says he is against gay marriage. He does have a point when it comes to how anti-free speech college campuses have become, and how odd it is that the regressive left seems to just ignore the aspects of Islam that are not compatible with, well, the shit they spew about "social justice" and all that, or even just a free and civil society in general. He kind of has a point when he says, "off the roof I'd go." Of course given how quickly the regressive left resorts to violence, maybe it shouldn't be so surprising.
It is an act. None of that is real. It is all scripted for people like you who need confirmation for your bubble. For all those who say he sucks at trolling he certainly has the village idiots fooled. The captain is so eager to believe the left is fascist haters he actually thinks Milo proves it. He gets the job done.
Does he ever explain why that is? Or does he like being a man ho and doesn't want to have to put a ring on it?
I thought Milo was pretty tame during Friday's appearance on Bill Maher. It was Maher who was lobbing insults and then not allowing Milo the opportunity to respond. Milo also exposed Maher by going after Lena Dunham ("I support free speech, except when you're criticizing someone associated with HBO"), and Sarah Silverman ("Free speech rules, except when you're talking about someone I'm friends with, then you have to shut up.") Milo was exactly right - the Left has become the party of Lena Dunham. Problem is, Dunham is a whining bubble-headed nutcase. She and the rest of Generation SafeSpace don't represent the vast majority of Americans. And it's pretty funny for Maher to whine about how Milo is just a provocateur, asking him "why do you have to argue with everyone?" The same is exactly true of Ann Coulter, who is a regular on Maher's show and someone Maher says is his long-time friend. There's so much hypocrisy going on, it's just impossible to keep up with it all.
He's quite talented as an entertainer and much of his critique against Third Wave Feminism, for example, I found provocative if not agreeable.
Not really, considering it's in line with the rest of the CCW (conservative culture warrior ) playbook. It's what he consistently advocates, which matters far more to me than his personal sexual identity.
He said marriage is a religious institution and as an atheist he doesn't feel it is appropriate to try to co-opt a religious institution. He said he was for civil unions.
It's feasible for a gay man to take that position if he he himself has no interest in getting married, which I can completely understand, and he's made a career of being a conservative troll. That would be fine if marriage were only a religious institution, but the whole crux of the political issue is regarding marriage as a legal institution.
Actually, it's perfectly valid to refer to a standard of normality within a group. Trolls, for example, certainly aren't "normal", but there's a standard that can be applied within the subgroup, and you fall on the shit end of the scale.
Most of the gay people I know fit society's definition of "normal" to a T: upper-middle class professionals, responsible homeowners, etc. Milo's act appeals to the CCW crowd because he fits their stereotype of what gays are supposed to be like, but he in no way represents all gay people. Nor does his sexuality or any other aspect of his personal identity (Catholic, Jewish, atheist, whatever) render him immune from criticism.
So now - shockingly I might add - there's a conservative group called the Reagan Battalion circulating an old tape of Milo that kinda makes it sound like he's tolerant of pedophilia. Link Annnnd as an update CPAC has just rescinded his invitation to speak at the conference.
If marriage was like it is in Japan where you're considered legally married upon signing the marriage app with or without the ceremony, I might agree. We've done separate but equal before in our history, and it doesn't work.
Welp his book deal just got cancelled and there's talk that Breitbart might drop him like a bad habit. I'm sure he'll crush it on Celebrity Rehab though.
Thank you for informing us all about what gay people are and are not. You truly are the expert of our kind. You should be the director of the Gay Zoo.
