I remember Obama being referred to as "44" plenty of times, and George W. Bush as "43" quite a few as well. Sometimes it's easier than saying President Obama, or President Trump. If you're using the number in context with the presidency, then people will know what you mean.

Speaking out against the president is not and never will be treason.

What might be treason is colluding with a foreign power to subvert an American election. Jury's still out on that one.

Never heard anyonw refer to Obama by his number, but even repubs use "Bush 41" and "Bush 43" just to distinguish between them.
But the current "45" schtick seems to like being afraid to say the name of the Jersey Devil (I know, I know) for fear he'll materialize.

I can think of a lot of worse things to call him than a stupid number.

It's probably more like they don't call him President Trump because he makes a joke of the office, and they don't wish to sully what the office represents, while also not considering Trump anything other than a paranoid delusional carnival barker who managed to get elected because people love a good show. Just my two bits on that one.

I never said it did matter so please stop crying like president cheeto. It does, however, mean that she did win the democratic vote and that the people overwhelmingly supported her over trump. It means trump has no mandate of the people. It means every one of you cucks who need to make excuses for him and tell us how the people elected him are wrong and lying.

You may now resume your crying and flailing on the floor like a good deplorable.

No that would not be "treason".

Going by the definition of "treason" a president could give the American nuclear launch codes to the Russians and Chinese and it would not be treason.

Point taken. What, if any, criminal charges would you recommend in such a scenario? Hypothetically, of course.

Seems like it would depend if the recipients of such information could be considered "enemies" at that moment.

It doesn't really make sense to compare Obama and Trump. Obama respected the American people and the office he held. Trump disrespected the American people and the Presidency before he even got into office. His daily twitterstorms are evidence of a man in way over his head.

Espionage of course. And that would certainly be a "high crime & misdemeanour"

And no matter how currently inimical to the interests of the U.S. Russan & China are now, you can't really consider them to be enemies.

Now if people here want to declare a state of war exists between the U.S. and Russians........

I'm probably several degrees to the left of 90% of the people on this board. And I'm telling you that the politicians we elect are there to serve us, not the other way around. Again, as HL Mencken put it, "the proper attitude of the press to the government is the same as that of a dog to a lamppost" (or words to that effect).

Obama was subjected to a lot of cheapjack, deliberately mendacious bullshit and, I think, stood up to it with great dignity. But nobody in his right mind would say that criticizing the president just because he's the president is intolerable.

    What bollocks!

Actually, I very, very much agree.
Though I'd prefer it be done without hurling insults.

One of my female high school classmates, who's now a filmmaker in Hollywood, had a psychotic break at me over this question on facebook. Ranting, swearing, machine-gun posting hysterically, calling my friends and relatives awful names...
