I don't really care about Nintendo's new games, I just want a budget box that'll let me DL games off the e-shop.
I still can't find this damn thing anywhere so I gave up and ordered a raspberry pi with a case and a SD card loaded up with emulators. Does the same exact thing except I can actually load my 800+ roms and play multiple systems. Nintendo makes great games but they are fucking awful at running their business or understanding the modern video game market. They are clueless about what gamers outside of Japan want.
Not disagreeing that Nintendo has made some silly decisions the last few years, but it seems like they did this product exactly right.
I don't know. I've heard from a lot of gamer folks that were just so annoyed with the situation that they are refusing to buy one and have migrated to other options. Look up the Retro Engine Sigma, a crowdfunded effort that is basically a prebuilt Pi setup. Already has exceeded its backing goal. And when the average consumer goes into the store looking for one of these but can only find an Atari Flashback or Sega Genesis retro console I can see a lot of these folks just opting for another product... Or maybe just making the leap to modern generation consoles. That's money that Nintendo is leaving on the table. It also doesn't help with consumer confidence in Nintendo especially with a new system coming out in March. Their most recent console the WiiU has a lot of great games but has been a gigantic failure, especially when compared to the Ps4 and Xbox One or even compared to previous Nintendo consoles. Nintendo almost seems to enjoy annoying their die hard North American fan base with stupid decisions... region locking consoles and then refusing to localize overseas content, delivering underpowered systems that can't handle 3rd party games, botched product launches, requiring a persistent internet connection to play Super Mario Run, etc. Being on thin ice with your fan base is not a good way to head into a major product launch. If consumers can't even find a 60 dollar mini retro console in stores it's not gonna make people want to drop ~300 dollars on a new system that already sounds underpowered compared to the competition. There are no shortage of PS4s/XBox1s out there for consumers to purchase even though those are pretty advanced tech products. Nintendo is treating this mini console like its a Tickle Me Elmo. Christmas has come and gone and they missed a huge opportunity to make some significant revenue over the holidays.
Someone told me they're going for 5x as much now on eBay. All is not lost though....looks like the Super Nintendo Classic will be availiable for Christmas Link Man, I wasted the better part of my childhood playing Street Fighter 2 and NHL 94 on that.
I played a ton of Link to the Past, Super Mario World, and NHL 94 on it. The one that I played a ton of that will never make it to a thing like this is Rock 'n' Roll Racing. Hopefully they don't fix the USB thing so I can throw my own roms on it!
nope. I've never played any Star Trek themed game and I've never heard of old republic. I did whoop some ass at wheel of fortune last night, though.
