Lots of Republican lawmakers in Texas are in favor of it. One of them even used the Bible as justification for his position.
This sentence is especially revealing: It never ceases to amaze me how conservatives can be perfectly aware of the suffering their policies cause and yet not change ... until someone they know is affected, and then the about-face comes. It's like they have malfunctioning empathy circuits or something.
Although I'm pro-legalization, the "God put it here, so it must be good" argument has always made me laugh. How many naturally occurring deadly poisons are there, again?
The argument I use with my Christian friends who are anti-pot but who all drink like fishes is, "To make beer, or whiskey, or any of the booze you drink you've got to work at it. Pot...just grows."
OTOH, I can respect someone who finally gets it, even in a situation such as this, as opposed to those that continue to fuck over people despite said experiences. There are plenty of people who do believe such stuff out of sincerity and being in their own little bubble. I've mentioned my mom was one of those "abortion is murder" types because she genuinely thought people had abortions out of laziness...until she herself had a stressful pregnancy with little support aside from her sisters. Either way, I don't get off ragging on people who come around on issues like these, as long as they do and we get the support we need.
I agree. It upsets me a lot to see someone change their position just because something effects them personally.
Not for me! I tried a couple times. Both major failures....just like every other plant I've attempted to keep alive. Even this fern thing my friend gave me as a housewarming present because they were "impossible to kill".
