He would have to be below 15% approval rating before this batch of Republicans considers impeachment. Unfortunately, we will be stuck with this disaster of an administration until January 2021.

You do know this country was founded by progressives? That the entire Declaration of Independence and the the Constitution would have been considered "unbearably progressive" in their time?

Why would any true patriot of the United States not want to be progressive?

Any such crisis would likely leave the Earth uninhabitable, so lets just hope he remains as a blustering buffoon.

"Progressive" in the late 18th century was radically different than "progressive" in the early 21st. Trust me, not at all the same animal.

How? The meaning of the word hasn't changed. Our society has changed. Just as we had changed from what we were 200 years before that.

So what? Society and humans are always evolving and changing.

So, too, should America. It's what we're about. Why would you want to go backward?

Yes, that is the nature of progressivism. Society progresses and so does the way we view and think about society. Not all of us dogmatically adhere to pre-industrial agrarian political ideologies like conservatives do. Instead, we try to learn from the mistakes of the past and think of ways to improve the future.

If Trump is impeached, will his legions of zombie followers insist that the impeachment is fake news, or alternative facts?

It's disturbingly mindboggling just what utter tools & fools the Trump Faithful are.

They'll be behind him no matter what he says or does.

Trump could run over a preschool with a truck & they'd STILL support him mindlessly.

If Trump shot dead dozens of people in Times Square on New Year's Eve, his supporters would say that he he had a right to exercise his 2nd Amendment rights, & those people in Times Square shouldn't have gotten in his way.

And it's sickening watching Paul Ryan sucking Trump's cock. The Republicans are a cowardly vermin party. That doesn't mean I love Democrats.

It's not so much that people voted for Billary Rotten Clinton, but were voting AGAINST Trump!

Usually in Presidential elections, the choice is between feces & urine. This past Presidential election the choice was between urine (Hillary) & diarrhea (Trump).

    No.

Progressive means we should change something in society and then let's all just stop here and pause for several hundred years to see how it works out.

    Why can't progressives get that?

In @Lanzman’s view of the world, “progressive” means writing lofty words about all men being created equal while still keeping slaves.

That the practice did not live up to the ideal does not invalidate the ideal.

Or is that too big a concept for you lot?

The intelligent response is: Let’s see if we can adjust the practice to better fit the ideal.

The conservative/libertarian/whatever response is “NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NOT WITH MY TAX DOLLARS, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!!”

Brietbart has already run at least one headline claiming the Republican knives are out for Trump as they desperately try to thwart the will of the people.

Trump will face articles of Impeachment approx. 2 years from now, the GOP will insist it is nothing more than a political witch hunt and when the trial goes to the Senate, they will largely stick together and muster 45-50 votes at least to not remove ...the uncertainty is whether Mueller's report drops before, during, or after the Summer of Drama - if before, there might be enough dirt in their to muster a removal vote but I doubt it.

Barring something more dramatic than what we've seen so far (say, if Trump fires the AAG and replaces him with a stooge who in turn fires Mueller, that might do it)

Another wild card - if the SP is able to establish that other mainstream Republicans like McConnell were complicit in the Russian influence that might affect things in unexpected ways.

There's virtually no way the Senate would ever remove both short of an actual horrendous crime - Pence is their safety net.

Once upon a time, there was a boy who said he'd change his avatar to "Ramen is God" if Trump won.

They all lived happily ever after.

Classically progressive, yes, everyone should be pretty okay with that. I mean progress, come on, who does not like that? Even most conservatives will agree modern housing beats ones made of horse shit and hay.

However 'progressive' has been somewhat hijacked to mean whatever social justice cause du jour must be rectified, with nary a thought or debate*, and anyone not entirely on board must be treated in manner that would leave Joe McCarthy with a big drippy dick of joy.

*Something else hijacked by the Internet Generation - debate now means "must agree with me and mine, or something, something, asshat", of which I think most of us can assume some guilt over, as only the most angelic of people who migrated from talking socially to being behind a keyboard and monitor did so without taking any latent sociopathic tendencies along for the ride.
