...and I am as well. It was kind of mean of me to say this here instead of in the RR thread.

Got the UHD of the 2016 Ghostbusters, but I'll have to wait until I go back to my place in Northern California to try it (don't have the good TV in my L.A. digs).

Finally watched it tonight, got about halfway through.

Didn't really like any of the stereotypes characters and the jokes were either flat or else just plain mean spirited.

I've never been much of a Ghostbusters fan. That said, this reboot never seemed like something I had to see. Had nothing to do with the gender politics, or the silly Milo/Twitter controversy. Nothing about it looked entertaining to me. Gender swapping all the character slots? Meh.

    Just saw it tonight.

Meh. Not funny or interesting. Certainly not a franchise sustaining film.

#1 It makes no sense that Patty should show up and just invite herself into the team. Winston was looking for a job. Patty already had a good paying job. I will say I wish they had played up more of her knowledge of New York City. That was the one bright spot of her character.

#2 Kevin? Really insulting to anyone with any sense of rational thought. He probably could have been more funny had he been a little smarter. Here they dumb him down so much that it's not laughable.

#3 The Ghostbusters never get a montage like in the original. The original established that the Ghostbusters had been operating for a few months before they even met Gozer. In the 2016 movie the Ghostbusters show up and bang they are fighting the boss.

#4 Not a single joke was funny. In fact most of them were cringe-worthy. The worst was Patty at the concert where she hit the floor. It didn't cross anyone's mind while filming this that if in real life someone as large as Leslie Jones wearing a huge ass backpack had jumped into a crowd they would have parted like the Red Sea as well? The lady isn't small. It has to be race or a female thing? That made no sense since Melissa McCarthy's character is obviously female. I'm thinking this was Paul Feig trying to make a racial comment but he failed badly at it.

#5 Rowan? Maybe a little more backstory into his motivation. Gozer's was filled in by Egon, but Rowan just seemed like a cardboard villain. Being bullied was his main motivation?

#6 The car was okay but don't like the goofy giant yellow light. Uniforms didn't look as bad in the film as they did in the press picture. Ghosts were okay looking except for the boss ghost.

#7 The choice of the ghost as the final form was crap. Pick something else. Towards the end I'd swear when the giant ghost was stomping on cars that was a guy in a nylon suit who when he lifted his foot part of the costume was stuck to the car.

#8 It's obvious of course that the huge scene with the military and police was cut-out of the film. Even though I knew about what that scene was supposed to be any person who didn't know would be left scratching their head on that one. And out of the whole city that's all the police?

#9 The characters interactions fall flat. Holtzmann was the most flat of all of them. She just seemed to be there. We've heard of rumors of tension between the cast and that some of them realized they were making a dud. I think it shows in the film. At times it looked as if characters were just going through the motions of saying their lines.

#10 Liked the cameos from the originals.

Paul Feig really fucked up here. I don't blame the actors. It's Feig's fault. It was a bad story, bad jokes, and a subpar effort on his part.

Ghostbusters should have been an action-comedy. Ghostbusters 2016 wasn't it.

I liked it as well. But only barely. It was entertaining and could have been a lot better, but I didn't dislike it.

Eh, about the same as WAB: I liked it well enough, but didn't love it. Watched it again on a recent flight. The original Ghostbusters wasn't a big thing for me, though.

It was enjoyable enough, and the material was there for a good movie, Feig just didn't do the job properly. Which was a pity, after The Heat and Spy I had some decent expectations.

Problem with remaking something as iconic as Ghostbusters is you're not going to win most of the original fans over, so you've just got to say fuck 'em and go for something you'll think will sell to today's audience, and it didn't do that very well sadly.

I mean, Danny boy wasn't wrong about the bloated budget. 80 million dollars and they still had special effects that even the most generous reviewers panned.

    Where did the money go?

He ain't wrong, but throwing Feig under the bus ain't gonna make anyone wanna work with him ever again.
    Very dumb of him.
I hope he was drunk on Crystal Head vodka.
