Mr. Plinkett's review of the Ghostbusters reboot: I think his critique is spot on. The original film was lightning in a bottle. This film tried to remake a classic with annoying, unfunny characters and it failed miserably.
Was the "answer the call" subtitle added for the DVD release? I don't remember it during any of the movie promo's.
It was in some ads, it was on one of the posters, it's in the end credits. Sony seemed to wiffle-waffle on it, but then it solidified by the DVD. Although, on Starz on-demand, it's still just "Ghostbusters (2016)".
Yeah, he's a lot more focused on analysis as opposed to the nitpicking that makes up the prequel reviews.
Is the inevitable prequel already greenlighted? No ghosts. Just 2 entertaining hours of shrill racism! Thanks no problem, Hollywood. Please send my fat writer's fee by Western Union.
As someone who's watched every square inch of the prequel DVDs, and every square inch of the Ghostbusters DVDs, he did better with the prequels. With this one, he was more concerned with molding things to a narrative to please bashers. Things that contradict the narrative are in the DVD, things that answer his rhetorical questions are in the DVD, so going through, I know he knew better. Sloppy work. And it didn't have to be. He could have pooped on the film with his opinion without being dishonest. If he'd stuck to "I don't like the way they did so much improv", he would've been fine. Whatever. They've been slacking for awhile. The "Force Awakens", and "Rogue One", ones were half-assed too I thought.
Nope, you're just delusional and don't want to admit the movie you promoted for over a year turned out to be crap.
Naw, I wouldn't go that far, but this was far better than his review for TFA for damn sure. There was some actual attempt at explaining how movies work and not an hour of "but wyminz sux lolol." It also explained to me why the original Ghostbusters worked because the appeal of that one flew over my head the first time I watched it. I give it a 7/10.
Well, I have to say on rewatching the film I found it actually does pretty well. I have seen the original many many times, and it still has humor in it. It is one of the things that is great that you can put it on and feel that character presence even if you may not be paying much attention to it. I have to say if you do not have an adverse reaction to the new movie you get the same thing. I still have yet to see it with the dance numbers in it, but with the regular cast it actually seems to do better on multiple views because of the quirky characters and familiar scenery. Please note I did not have hate for this version so I would imagine if you did you would probably hate it more. I have to say Patti has to be my favorite in this one. It is a decently funny movie with some enjoyable characters if you can give it a chance. However all of that will make you hate it more if you have a problem with it.
Like I said on my blog, I watched the old one on HBO every time it was on as a kid, and never got sick of it, and now I watch the new one on Starz every time I can catch it, and never get sick of it.
The new one isn't great, but it's watchable. If they re-tooled a little bit (a lot of the criticisms are accurate, if sometimes overblown), I could probably stand a sequel.
Zombie asserts in the GB3 thread I abandoned/am ignoring this film. I don't know how that can be, if I keep watching the thing, and continue to follow its spinoff books. OMFG!!!! It was just a fucking joke you damn idiot. I even had to hunt for the right smiley to make sure you understood it was just a joke. Yet you still didn't get it. You're still wrapped up in Ghostbusters 2016 being the "best evah broh!" that you can't see past it when someone is making a very light joke at your expense. You're pathetic.
It’s like all of those evangelicals who rail against gays and then it turns out they’re meeting up at rest stops and taking it up the ass from some 20 something year old flamer. Good to know the truth has finally came out.
Yeah, I whipped my privates out at Kate McKinnon, and she called the cops, and I went to jail. I've been writing from a prison cell on a laptop smuggled up my ass for the past 3 years. I kept it out of the press, because I know Dayton's presidential hackers who are going to erase his diary thread. Also, it's a really loose honor system prison that lets me out to watch every new Star Wars and Marvel movie.
No, it's vulgar and objectifies Ms McKinnon Definitely don't think she'd see it as a joke once you mansplained it that way
