Protesters decide to take the law into their own hands and rip down a Confederate statue.

I have to ask what the urgency is all of a sudden to topple Confederate statues? Like it or not, this is American history, and those statues are there to teach a lesson, more as a cautionary tale in most cases.

 

Destruction of public property. Hmmm.

 

How was this monument a cautionary tale any more than its removal will be?

 

Yeah, this is bullshit. It's one thing for a city to decide to take it down. It's another thing entirely for a bunch of assholes to take it upon themselves.

It's a monument to fallen soldiers, misguided soldiers, yes, one could argue that their rememberance could be used as a cautionary example of of what happens when Americans go to war with each other.

Antifa only sees these statues in the most basic of symbologies. It's a statue of someone their professors have deemed problematic, so it must be a symbol of hatred.

The cautionary tale of it's toppling will be not to destroy public property, for it is a crime and you will be arrested.

In what way were any of these statues used as a cautionary tale?

Is there a plaque in the statute that says, "Don't be an asshole like these guys"?
