Texas for you - still reinforcing my own personal experiences that I've never met a Texan I didn't like. I always did like Derrick Lewis (entertaining but genuine and a class act in the octagon!) but I never knew he was from Houston. http://mmajunkie.com/2017/08/derric...nfederate-flag-toting-hurricane-harvey-victim
definitely a "gentle giant" outside the octagon. I'd be willing to bet there are hundreds/thousands of rescue stories from this flood about people from all walks of life putting the "petty bullshit" aside to help each other in this terrible time. Too bad it takes a hurricane to do it.
The county is full of genuinely good people. News had a blurb about a boat convoy saving folks who had to suddenly get out of their subdivision. And they weren't organized by any official.
Yeah, maybe someone should direct Jim Joel olsteen's way. In case you do not know he is a big tv televangelist who has a megachurch in Huston that could have been set up to house people in this time of need given all the money they have, or at least let people in for shelter, but they have kept it closed and basically have told people they would pray for them. Even if the church is flooded you might be able to provide food or some volunteer assistance and coordinate with local rescue efforts to show what good your charity does in time of need but hell no. You get a tweet about some prayers while the church owners are away counting their money. Is that a Texan you like @oldfella1962 ? I personally have never met a native Texan I like, but I feel bad for them and hope our government is using its resources to help as many people as possible and am happy to see those who are coming together in this time of crisis. Yes there are a lot of people who are helping, and I think it is a good use of our tax money to help disaster rescue and recovery efforts so I would not dream of voting for a selfish representative who might vote against disaster relief or try to hold it hostage with some pet amendment. It should be noted that despite the large number of good and decent Texans who help out their fellow man there is a cultivated strain of selfish right wing hypocrites who really need to take a good look into their black hearts and people need to stop endorsing them and find some of the better people to put in high places.
