so does that last sentence apply to minorities running from cops or refusing to comply with cop demands? Seems like you are cherry picking your view on cops.

So, most of your suggestions are the same as ones I've also made... i.e.:training and certification a la air brake licensing. Y'know, those same things that certain WF members would call "impediments" to exercising their rights.

How long of a drive is it from Chicago to any of the three "shall issue", minimal (if any) waiting period states. Maybe there needs to be border crossings between states as there are between nations? I've certainly heard the claim here before that states are actually micro nations when discussing why the electoral college can subvert the popular vote.

Likewise, how is it that the murder rate is lower there than several cities - and not a lot higher than others - that are in states with loose gun laws/a lot more legally owned weapons? Sort of like how while Toronto has 30 times the population of Thunder Bay, but only about a tenth of the murder rate.

Just like people can own a car without misusing them. Yet, we still require them to pass certain tests before allowing them to drive on the roads without supervision.

What needs to be said is Deerfield is a nice place which no one has shot up with an assault rifle and we would like to keep it that way because you have no business having one I town.

With, again, the 'we' being the same group that commits less gun crimes than other people. That seems to be the point you're completely missing. The last time I brought it up, you went on a strange tangent that ended with you saying you couldn't wrap your brain around the issue because it couldn't be phrased as a problem of race. Want to try again?

    The point?

To let you know it's possible to ban an entire class of guns. That you have construed this as an attack on some class of people other than assault gun owners is telling. Paranoid?

It's obvious that it's not going to succeed in preventing anyone living there from owning one that really wants one. It might give them pause before they take a selfie posing with it and post it online. It might give pause to some shit-for-brains gun fanatic thinking about moving there by making the statement "We don't like assholes that think they need an military grade rifle as a toy."

It is an indication of the turning tide. I'd say it's turning against you.

I don't have to have a driver license to keep one in the garage, nor to use it on my own property.

Good good, it's nice to see another proponent of guns=cars. I could get behind that for a start.

Licensed carriers to deliver the guns for use on your own property or to move it elsewhere. Otherwise keep it in your garage.

Strict regulations on design, manufacture, safety.

    no, fuckhead.

Voter ID laws restrict low income voters without current picture IDs issued by the state under the guise of preventing voter fraud.

Unless you're an advocate of voting from the rooftop, there is no parallel between weapons and voting.

Meanwhile, NJ's new governor has started his gun control agenda.
    http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2018/02/gun_control_hearing.html

He's resurrected the .50 caliber ban that Christi vetoed. This will of course stop street criminals from carrying the .50 caliber Barret long-range target rifle, which is 5 feet long and weighs 35 pounds, and for which ammo costs $5 per round; and the S&W model 500 magnum revolver, which weighs five pounds and is mainly made for hunters. Good thing, 'cause both those guns have been used in crimes... errrr.... never.

The mag limit is of course pointless, and will only make every pistol owner in the state an instant criminal, since most 9mms made have 12-15 round mags. And since there are already approximately eleventy-million 15-rd mags in the world, no crook shall ever be without one. I bought 10-rd mags for mine the last time this was on the table, fortunately. I didn't catch if police were exempt. When Cuomo forced the SAFE law thru while sidestepping the system, setting mag limits at 7 rounds, every cop in NY state was suddenly in violation. They had to make an emergency amendment exempting cops. :jayzus:

Didn't say that. Pointing out that it's bad logic to say this ban is equivalent.

Except TF didn't say this ban is equivalent to cars, and you're wrong to suggest he did. Here's the dialogue between you, TF, and Tererun:

This wasn't about banning , it was about requiring competency tests for licenses and the licenses themselves.

If I keep it in my pants, do I need a concealed carry permit? Or does it depend on the stopping power? Because last time I whipped it out in public, it stopped shit cold.

well Space Turkey here's how things work out with the "murder rate" here in the US. Spoiler alert get ready (and alert everyone else!) to call me a racist. Remember, bringing up facts/statistics/demographics whether to prove a point or just ask a probing question, you are a racist unless you are a historical minority (black) bringing up the same facts.
Asians & hispanics must be excluded (sorry fellas!) in the calculations. That said, in Illinois (and in Georgia) towns and cities with a low ratio of minority citizens have lower murder rates than towns & cities with a higher ratio of minority citizens. There are many, many reasons for this (racism, slavery, corruption, greed, etc.) but putting reasons aside the fact remains at least as concerns Illinois: pound-for-pound the higher percentage of minorities in your zip code the higher the murder rate. As your zip code demographics change the murder rate will change over X amount of time. There very well may be exceptions to this and if so, I invite anyone to bring these exceptions to my attention.

Again, I am a foaming-at-the-mouth racist for even daring to bring up this topic but if you can look past my blatant racism to explore my claim, you very well might prove me wrong and this would be enlightening and informative.
