Should a waxing salon have to provide Brazilians to trans women?

There are areas in cosmotology where you would not work on a person based on the procedure and color of their skin. For example hair straightening on black women. Because of the natural thickness of their hair they require very concentrated lye based chemicals to straighten their hair. You have a time limit and the need to protect the scalp with the proper products and procedures or you will chemically burn their hair or skin. If you are not comfortable or skilled enough to prepare, apply, and properly rinse the client you can cause burns, infection, and permanent hair loss. Even in the case of non chemical braiding if you are too tight, which many installers are even if they are familiar with it, you can cause permanent hair loss. Even washing the hair you need to make sure to detangle first or you can cause damage to the hair. Some schools don't teach white students how to do black hair. You do need to say no and refer to someone else if you cannot do the procedure. Many black women are not comfortable with a white person doing their hair because a black woman is far more experienced with the specific and different requirements for their hair.

Even in haircutting a US licensed barber is certified in the use of a straight razor where a cosmotologist is not so if your style needs a shave then you need to have someone certified to use a razor. On the other side a barber is not as familiar with many other services a salon would be needed for.

This is one area where there needs to be training and a familiarity because we have to accept there is a difference to client requirements and safety.

From what I have heard the pain makes you see stars and many people pass out from it. I have personally never had the waxing around there. A friend of ine taught me that you can shave really close and avoid the irritation and bumps down there using deoderant. I would beware of the ingredients though as talc has been confirmed to cause ovarian cysts and cancers. A man would not have those issues. I would consult a dermatologist if you are worried about such things.

The beauty industry is filled with pain and many contradictions.

I actually have a raging conflict going on with the beauty thing. I cannot deny feeling more powerful and awesome when I am made up in a fashion I like. However, when you look at female beauty it is so painful and oppressive. It actually gets worse for brown people. But there is a reality that a black woman can make a very good living in the industry without needing a huge education and having to break through the wall of prejudice.

There are horrible things that go on that people do to themselves to be the "pretty." Chris Rock has a great documentary on black hair. In order to have more straight flowing hair like a white woman has they pay huge amounts of money, use chemicals that basically burn you, and procedures that can rip out your hair and cause baldness just to have the hair they have. To get the hair they use religion over in india to tell women to sacrifice their hair and then the hindu temples take the sacrificed hair and auction it off to be sold over here. It is worth more than gold by weight. So the women who grow the hair don't even get the money and power to move up in society while they religion rakes in the profit. Before it gets to the black hairdressers white owned companies process it and take their cut, along with asians.

It is really exploiting a lot of people while it also empowers a lot of poor people. It is a hugely conflicted industry. The idea of beauty itself seems somewhat contradictory too. and I am getting into it. I am hoping I can spread a little bit of real empowerment while helping people appreciate themselves more. However I am going to be walking a line where a real beast is waiting to chew those people and me up into the machine of oppression, sexism, and racism. I am going right into the heart and frontline of the problem. It is strange how the problem may also be part of the solution.

No, I haven't, because I couldn't care less about trannies and their SJW crowd trying to make Brazillian waxes a civil rights issue. :dayton:

The more your side descends into self-parody, the more you sacrifice what little credibility you have left to advocate for any legitimate issues.

So I discussed this with my teachers at Cosmo school and they said if the person is not familiar with doing it on trans men with or without the penis they should refuse. They might harm her and someone familiar should do the procedure.

This is in Florida where rules are relaxed.

So, black people on buses during segregation.

Was that a non issue too?

Is that relevant to Brazilian waxes? :dayton:

I guess Brazilian waxes are all the civil rights agitators have left to bitch about in 2018.

Actually I'm not seeing anyone in this thread agitating at all, even our trans members have taken a fairly prosaic view about the practicalities involved.

I asked you a question, was black segregation on buses a non issue? Plenty of people at the time felt it was, yet Rosa Parks became a defining symbol of the struggle for black rights.

One could argue she achieved little of importance, but wrongly so. Being denied the use of that seat purely because she was black was an expression of the power imbalance in society. She was being denied nothing more than a convenience, but being denied it purely because of who she was.

If this were about people being trans the analogy would hold, we would have people being denied commercial access to a convenience on the basis of being members of a group.

That being said, given the practical realities no one here's actually taken that view have they?

If you'd like to equate Brazilian waxes for trannies with dicks to Rosa Parks, be my guest. Just don't get butthurt when you're not taken seriously.

irrespective of the details of this case, in the broader sense that question would not be "have i been harmed in that there is still hair upon my crotch?" but rather "have I been harmed in that I was not accommodated in the same manner as other customers?"

In this case, based on what I read here, I don't think there's a claim BUT that's beside my point - civil equality is about being treated equally, not about the specific service you were trying to avail yourself of.

It’s been a thing in the US for years. Enough to be a widely beloved gag in The 40 Year Old Virgin and that was made years ago.

HIMYM was right Canada is a decade behind the US when it comes to culture.
