How about Anna's continued use of a racial slur? You just miss all those? How about all the times these idiots called me an apple? Those just escaped your notice, did they?
Lol are you really white knighting over "wypipo"? Isn't there a better hill to fuck your pillow die on?
As a white person I feel much less offended by a term like that than someone directing graphic images of race inspired violence at their target. To say that Ramen was banned for a racial slur is to intentionally mislabel what happened.
And I'm not offended by being called an apple - it's just a word. I am offended at the double standard. So are you actually going to treat people equally, or not?
Sure. If anyone else makes outright physical threats towards another poster using racist imagery, earns a long vacation, then when they come back on thin ice jumps straight into posting 8chan style shit I'm sure they'll get a ban as well. If you want people banned for just a bit of trolling then I'll have to say that seems unlikely, since that has never been a reason for a ban.
So did Ramen post any imagery or actually make any threats since his return? Because it sure looks like you banned him for trolling to me.
“Still on parole” years later? And the previous “offense” was trolling someone about dying as is done daily and has been done by just about every poster here? Pot meet kettle.
I don't know why he was let back in here to begin with. Not that you give two shits about it. You're just worried that you might say something that will get you tossed, and you figure that by keeping Ramen around, you'll have a security blanket. I can point to any number of current posters that I disagree with, @Paladin and @Zombie, for example, but I wouldn't argue that they need to be tossed from here (and I want to point out that at least 1 poster who's been banned from this site is still freely able to post in the WF FB group). You don't like it? You know where the exit door is. Feel free to use it. I won't stop you, and neither will anyone else. I also won't ask for you to be allowed back in, if you're banned again. Which is what you're afraid of. You need this place more than it needs you. You get banned and you won't know what to do with yourself. Me? If I get banned, I'll just move along and never think of it again. I've left a lot of message boards over the years (and never got banned from any of them) because the parts of them that appealed to me were ruined by the staff. This is despite the fact that the members of those boards were of far greater help to me than the folks here were (not a dis against anyone here, BTW). But things changed, and I wasn't the person I was when I joined those boards. YMMV. In short, to quote The Shat in the infamous SNL sketch, "Get a life!"
This. To add, if I'm getting banned so much that it threatens to become permanent, or that my experience becomes so poor that I spend more time in the Help Desk (or other forum equivalent) than anywhere else, then my ideas and beliefs are clearly outside what the community is willing to discuss, and that's a good time to move on. There was a time when Wordforge was fairly conservative (with some libertarian leanings). Nowadays, Wordforge is more moderate (with some liberal and libertarian leanings). More people are welcome here, but at the same time those who operate at the most extreme ends are finding that their elbow room is shrinking, because people don't tolerate the overt, blatant racism and misogyny as much as they did years ago. There are still plenty of places on the internet that are a forum for bigotry and extremism, where trolls can troll each other all day to their hearts content. Wordforge is not one of them. Wordforge is also not a free speech paradise where everyone just blurts what pops off the tops of their heads or underneath their subconscious. In the age of Google, everything you do on a public forum can be seen from anywhere in the world. It isn't like the early years when an AltaVista search wouldn't bring up specific quotes by problem posters and slant the whole board as a place to avoid. Some folks might say "you're bowing to the NPCs and the virtue signalers," and those folks would be wrong, but then if they're using words like that then it's established that they're kind of assholes anyway, so why bend in their direction? They'll never be satisfied regardless of what you do. There will always be a new outrage for them to stomp into the Help Desk and proclaim its shame at the top of their proverbial lungs. TL;DR - Fuck it. Ramen earned it, let him own it. Whomever believes he was in the right can follow along right behind him.
Wordforge is moderate with some libertarian and liberal leanings. That's not to say that I'm moderate. Fuck no, I'm left wing and I acknowledge that.
Also the idea that this place is more welcoming now. And this is coming from someone who was neg-repped well into the red not long after coming here because I posted some edgy 9-11 memes.
It is more welcoming, just not to trolls who like to peddle bigotry. Consider that if you find yourself sympathizing with them.
A bigot runs off a nice poster- "Yaaayy!! Good riddance you fucking pussy!! Yayyy!!". A bigot gets shown the door-
Trouble is how loosely people like you define that. I don't have to sympathize with someone or agree with what they have to say to defend their right to say it, or in this case just to point out an obvious double standard.
It's only trouble if you're already thinking of ways to push it to the limit. Still, if you find yourself decrying actions that remove racists, bigots, trolls, and shitposters on a board that does not advertise 100% free speech, maybe you're just tilting at windmills?
Yeah, free speech is only a problem if you're actually planning on exercising it. Still can't live down that double standard. Nice try changing the subject though.
Firstly, what did I just say about this board and 100% free speech? Secondly, if you plan on pushing it to its limit by, say, posting racist images directed at specific board members, what is your real intent? Why would you do such a thing if you want to be part of a community that is made up of different religions, ethnicities, and political points of view? If all you can do is be an edgelord, go to Twitter. Places like Wordforge don't need that shit, and you're not entitled to spout it on such a platform. It's not a double standard if the standard is "you do not have 100% free speech." How is that difficult to comprehend?
Kick a gay/lesbian couple out of a cake shop- "Yeah, well, privately owned, what can ya do? ". Kick a bigot off a privately owned board- "Freedom of speech!! Freedom of spee-hee-hee-heech!!! Oh, God, I can't feel my legs!! Somebody help me!! ".
We never had 100% The "good old days", were under Cass/Aurora, and the server was in Germany, and swastika shit was illegal. Rightforge isn't just wearing rose colored glasses, they're wearing fucking kaleidoscope binoculars.
