and Ruiz becomes.....wait for it....the first Mexican-American HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION! Plenty of great Mexican fighters but not in the bigger weight classes. So...we have TWO chubbies as heavyweight champs! Daniel Cormier is the current UFC "daddest man on the planet" and now Ruiz who really rocks the dad-bod to the extreme. Ruiz was a 20-to-1 underdog and crushed AJ. Stephen Smith from ESPN was upset (the big picture in upcoming fights got disrupted) and confused because AJ looked gassed for some reason. NO SHIT! AJ has muscles on top of muscles which is a huge expenditure on a body going all-out for a long title fight. Ruiz put the constant pressure on AJ (and with a huge reach disadvantage too!) and AJ's cardio was a factor. Awesome job Ruiz!
the meme is right though! Once you're a heavyweight it's a done deal - you don't have to cut any weight. Your "walk around" weight is your "fighting weight". If your body operates at full throttle and your training is going well but you're packing some flab, so be it! Why mess with success? Fighting (or pretty much any sport) isn't a body building contest - it's skill, technique, and heart.
LOL, literally watching Chernobyl right now (was gonna start MC thread) but hadn’t made the connection. That’s pretty good.
Please note that all those guys on the Alfa died at the end of the movie. In the novel as well though by different means..
