Deal. I believe I've offered to most everyone when I happened to be in their area and could fit it in the schedule. The only other person that's declined was @AlphaMan , but it was extremely short notice on my part. I was totally cool with it. I still want to try again the next time I get to the NYC area.

My admittedly hazy recollection of WF in the pre-Nova days (it's a handy benchmark for me) is that Storm had a "posse" that adored him (which sadly included Tamar who was an absolute treasure to me when I came out and I CANNOT think ill of her no matter what others do), and a cohort of posters who despised his shit and by extension the similar views from some of his posse...and a third group (which included me even though I was conservative at the time) that just tried to stay out of the crossfire and didn't line up either way.

Looking back, that second group clocked him correctly and I can't help but wonder how many of the long-departed posse (Jericho for example) are cut from the same cloth.

There is the problem of association though. I'm just going to repost a post I recently made in the Shelter in response to a similar discussion:

In modern times, and especially with the debates going on around social media right now, there is definitely an increased expectation of sites to consider who they give a platform to.

I don't necessarily agree with that, however it is the way the world is going.

Even a decade ago, if someone tied me to here as a moderator and was to bring up a Tasvir post or the like I feel like I could have made a pretty good case for not being involved and show how the board self-moderated as explanation of how it shouldn't reflect on me.

Now...not so much. Internet trolling, fake personas, 4chan are all well known. Reddit has made mainstream news with discussion of its moderation. In most cases what you allow is what you are taken to endorse.

Again, don't necessarily think that's a good development, but barring a time machine it's what we have to deal with.

That's because it gets fucking old.

I'm ashamed to admit that I was more or less in "the Posse" as you refer to it.

I had a much different view of what an acceptable sense of humor was back then, and didn't really think he actually MEANT the "bad stuff" he said. I was just happy to rally around a vocal conservative / libertarian.

I don't know if I would call myself one of his posse, but I liked him and never took his stuff seriously, though I did think he went over the line from time to time. I was FB friends for a while, but unfriended him when it became clear that it wasn't an act.

IIRC, tko never did like the attention. I remember her asking him to stop talking about her like that a few times.

Banning kids is a good idea, but it put a band-aid on the very real harrassment problem we had on this board towards women. How many women did Ecc creep on here even before Meka? The guy who harrassed Mrs A over boob pics is STILL a daily active--and married --poster. Ted would still be here if he hadn't bitten the hand that fed him and harrassed Tamar's niece. Hell no. One of the big advantages of having a long active archive is that people can't sugar coat the past, and we can learn lessons from it on how to do better.
