Sorta. The original version isn't much better.

TL;DR version: The pic is from last year, it was flipped, colorized, had some hairs added, and Trump was made fatter.

That's not what they ruled, unfortunately.

In a nutshell, they said presidential immunity was not absolute and they threw the case back down to the lower court to decide.

BREAKING: Not only did the Supreme Court essentially send the case back down to the lower court, they also ruled that Congress cannot subpoena Trump's financial records.

That's why I put the word "developing" in the post. The main takeaway is NOT that we (or anyone else) will see those returns any time soon, but Trump's claim to "absolute immunity" is :bullshit:
The Supreme Court on Thursday cleared the way for prosecutors in New York to see President Trump’s financial records, a stunning defeat for Mr. Trump but a decision that probably means the records will be shielded from public scrutiny under grand jury secrecy rules until after the election, and perhaps indefinitely.
In a separate decision, the court ruled that Congress could not, at least for now, see many of the same records. The vote in both cases was 7 to 2. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. wrote both majority opinions.
In the case concerning the prosecutors’ subpoena, Chief Justice Roberts wrote that “no citizen, not even the president, is categorically above the common duty to produce evidence when called upon in a criminal proceeding.” He added that Mr. Trump may still raise objections to the scope and relevance of the subpoena.
In the case concerning congressional subpoenas, Chief Justice Roberts wrote that lower courts had not adequately considered the separation of powers concerns raised in the case. He was joined by the same justices who voted with him in the New York case.
Mr. Trump immediately attacked the outcome on Twitter. “This is all a political prosecution.”

“Courts in the past have given “broad deference”. BUT NOT ME!” he wrote.:whaa:

Nah. Chlamydia Claudius posted a typo-laded tweet, and then after being roundly mocked for it, deleted it. I'm sure somebody made a screengrab of it and will be circulating it shortly.

Regardless, the first sentence of that post is patently false.

    I wish it were otherwise.

Not quite...In the case concerning the prosecutors’ subpoena, Chief Justice Roberts wrote that “no citizen, not even the president, is categorically above the common duty to produce evidence when called upon in a criminal proceeding.” He added that Mr. Trump may still raise objections to the scope and relevance of the subpoena.
The court made a perfectly reasonable ruling that the Congressional subpoenas were too broad. We also will NOT see any records before the election.

No, this is what you posted:
Which is not at all what the court ruled.

You can mince words and interpret the ruling as you wish, but at no point did the Supreme Court say that Trump must turn over his tax returns.

I got that part wrong. If it makes your day to point it out great. I'll leave it up there as proof that I'm not perfect. And Trump will have to argue against those subpoenas like any of the rest of us great unwashed. That's what's got him really upset. Congressional democrats tried to use the subpoena power as a political weapon and got called on it. Just as well. Trump's attempt to claim "absolute immunity" got slapped down. Those records won't be turned over any time soon, if at all, but that's what happens with the rule of law.

It doesn't make my day. This is a very important issue and America is in deep, deep, deep trouble right now.

You have an obviously corrupt, uncaring president and major protests against injustice across the country, all of which is happening in the middle of the worst public health crisis in over a century.

I wish the Supreme Court had ordered Trump to turn over his financials, but they didn't (although they did open the door for the NY DA to pursue him).

Whenever those records get released they might change the minds of a few undecides, but they won't make a dent in his true believers. I would like to see those records, but releasing them is not a cure for the disease that caused Trump to get elected in the first place and whether those records would make a significant difference in the election is (in my mind) debatable.

From what I've read, the DA's office won't/cannot make public and even if there's trial it may never be public. Unless it leaks it can't have an impact on November.
