    The day of, he'll march into the Oval Office and lock the doors, and everyone will just stand around awkwardly outside the White House, waiting for someone else to do something useful about it.

    As of this moment:

    Nevada is playing coy. Same numbers for the past four hours, even though they're still apparently "counting."

    Georgia is inching along in favor of Biden... one... vote... after... another.

    Pennsylvania? Almost 7,000 more votes for Biden in the past hour.

    Since Trump is often wont to compare himself to Lincoln, I will point out that there's an apocryphal story about a woman approaching Lincoln and asking him why he doesn't destroy the Confederacy. Lincoln is said to have responded, "Madam, when I make them my friend, do I not destroy my enemy?" Seems like Joe's aiming for that with this.

    And skip to 4:20 to see him say that quote.

    You want to know how much the Navajo Nation dislikes trump?
    1. of the 85,000 registered voters on Navajo 76,000 voted. 89% turn out
    2. Of those 76,000 voters 74,000 voted for Biden & 2,000 for Trump
    3. Biden’s current lead in Arizona sits at about 40,000

    This was a noble intention, on both men's part.

    However, Lincoln did NOT in fact make them his friends, they remained implacably committed to oligarchy and white Supremacy, and within little more than a decade after Lee surrendered, they were in position to reinforce both.
    As Heather Cox Richardson writes - the South lost on the battlefield and basically won the war of ideas. Their political views still prevail among 40%+ of American voters.

    They aren't going to be Biden's friends either.

    I have a cousin that I think a lot of, haven't seen him in person since my injury but that side of the family (my mom's) was very accepting when I transitioned and I don't think I've ever had the first cross thought about him.

    Yesterday, for some reason, Facebook's machinery decided to throw a couple of his posts into my feed and .....there he was, a perfectly intelligent rational emotionally sound dude, "just asking questions" about all the very obvious frauds being perpetrated by Democrats to steal the election.

    I'm sad. Again.
    But more than that I am livid, and will be maybe forever, at all the friends and family i once respected that have descended into tinfoil hat madness because of Trump.

    I remember an old Batman episode where the Penguin and Batman ran for Mayor of Gotham City. Penguin bullshitted his way to an early lead until the late results from the Indian reservation came in and saved the day.

    Imagine being the National Intelligence briefer team and the sheer joy they are going to feel when they start giving daily briefings to a non-psychopath president after 4 long years.

    100% agree.
    In a normal democratic country, of which their are multiple examples in the world, Trump would have set an impressive record as the major party candidate (in a two man race) who got the lowest % of votes in U.S. history - by a significant margin. And he should have done that versus literally any politician that the Dems might have offered. So roughly speaking Trump is going to end up with about twice as many votes as is in any sense rational (let's assume that 24-25% are all outright Deplorables who openly want what he offers and not just "pragmatic" evangelicals or racists in denial)

    Anyway, that's way too long - point is that it's a big damned problem that's not going away.

    and yet on the other hand...

    By the time this is over:
    Biden will have slightly more EC votes than Trump won when he insisted it was a landslide;
    He'll have won the second largest margin of victory, both in raw vote and as a %, in 24 years;
    He'll have had the highest vote share of any challenger to unseat an incumbent president since FDR crushed Hoover in 1932;
    He'll have been the first Dem to win AZ in 24 years and the first non-Georgian to break 50% in GA in SIXTY years.
    Dems have won a majority of the presidential vote in 7 of the last 8 cycles - which has never been done before;
    Dems will have won the popular vote 4 cycles in a row, only ever done before when FDR was elected 4 times in a row.
    If they win both the Georgia runoffs for a 50-50 Senate, Democrat senators will represent 41 million more Americans than Republican Senators.
    We are NOT a center-right or a conservative country, we're a center-left country with busted ass system that allows minorities to hold outsized power despite not convincing the most voters.

    My supposition is that without Trump specifically on the ballot dejected GOP turnout will deflate significantly while Abrams' Dem Army will be highly motivated to go in for the kill shot on McConnell.

    The candidates themselves? Likely not (maybe Reagan, at least in a latent way?)

    But the underlying party power structure has been essentially white supremacist since Goldwater. Rush simply flushed it out in the open and Newt ran with it...and Obama's election supercharged it.

    The thing about Trumpism is that it's (other than his own personal psychosis) just regular old Republicanism with the mask ripped off.
    What McConnell and the other power players want more than anything is to be essentially the same party as now, but hidden behind the veneer of sanity that they would get from, say, Nikki Haley or Josh Hawley. There problem is that their next nominee is very likely to be...

    A Trump.

    In a month we'll end up seeing that the polling models (I.E like 538 and The Economists, not so much individual polls) were on the whole entirely solid. There will be exceptions (WTactualF MAINE?!) and more so as you go lower down the scale (how much public polling is a state senate race going to get, for example?) but already the presidential race is well within the confidence intervals from the major models.
