I just heard the Army there arrested the President and Aung San Suu Kyi in some kind of junta.

What's the story there?

Our Man Flynn is on the scene.

The military backed party got shellacked in the elections.

They have made totally unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud.

The military is replacing the elected government to ‘protect the constitution’.

Ya know, the usual 3rd world country shit...

There is also the whole genocide thing but I’m not sure how relevant that is to this situation except the civilian government and Aung San Suu Kyi aren’t the beloved folks they once were so there is probably a bit less outrage than there would have been pre-genocide.

On the French news this morning, they explained it very simply: the military did what Donald Trump tried to do.

Yeah, when you hear it coming from another country it puts things in perspective. We're lucky our democracy held up and nobody should ever think, "those type of things can't happen here" ever again. Just think if Trump hadn't disrespected the military the way he did, things could have gone quite differently.

I think you have too little faith/knowledge of the integrity of most of American military. Despite what trump and the GOP would have you believe, most military personnel are not conservative, nor blind followers.

I have plenty of faith in military personnel, but every veteran I know is a Trump supporter and some believe the narrative that the election was stolen.

I'm a veteran and I'm not a trump supporter and do not believe the narrative.

Most of my fellow veterans, ex husband included, as well as most of my siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and all their friends and family ... well, I do have a very broad field to look up, but most, despite their personal feelings, have the integrity to back the constitution and the peaceful transfer of power guaranteed within it.

I'ma current DoD employee and believe me, most of the rank-and-file had a pretty dim view of the orange moron.

Bullshit. No unit of U.S. soldiers are ever going to go rogue to serve any president. Can an individual soldier go ape shit for political reasons? Yes indeed, ask Major Hassan. A whole group of them having a hidden agenda and seeing it through? Never gonna happen in the U.S. We might be some criminal motherfuckers but generally we aren't stupidly suicidal. Those clown involved in the Capitol attack weren't trying to take over shit because they never even employed weapons. They were (I guess) trying to make a statement or something.

You do realize it was an organized attack that involved cops aiding them, right? What’s to stop some members of the military doing the same? Keep in mind that some of those same people involved in the capital riot were also ex-military.
