This is a funny one. For anyone who knows linsay is probably on the fairly liberal side. She was one of the critics on that guy with the glasses, and was pretty smart and well educated. She does some involved criticizing of things. She has deleted her channel and I had to figure out what the fuck happened because she supposedly said some racist shit. From what I found out through going through a large amount of crap was she made a comment saying something about avatar the last airbender being some sort of genre for young adult fiction. People started whining about her not knowing about the anime/asian thing. Linsay seemed to be doing well at explaining herself until she used a phrase she is known to use. She said if you squint you can see it. The way she uses that is saying if you try to see it really hard you can see it. Ooopsie, and then the cancel culture people ate her alive. Maybe I am wrong and lindsay goes on all sorets of anti-asian rants in places I do not see, but I do know she has used that phrasing before, and when you talk about young adult media something good comes out and then everyone copies the fuck out of it. Just watch what you say around people and try to be aware. I do not think she meant to do it, but she said squinty to asian people. I do hope she does not come back and blame asians for taking offense to something that racists use on them all the time.
It was on the titter thing and her account has been deleted. I am sure @oldfella1962 is taking notes for one of his racist jokes.
Don't worry, I was there when it went down Here's the original quote: What unfortunately got lost to time was her snotty rebuttal calling people crazy for the understandable exhaustion of seeing white led depictions held up as the model for Asian-based fantasy, that hand to god included a sentence along the lines of "I can see how it may be racist if I squint," which would be tone deaf towards annnnnnny group, but especially to Asian Americans less than a week after the massage parlor shooting. People rolled their eyes and she decided to.pull the plug. And before anyone says it was an isolated incident.....it wasn't: I know Reylos are the new Twilight shippers in terms of general fandom derision but boy did this "joke" land like a lead balloon.
Does Youtube give off a magic frequency of radiation that turns its content creators into assholes? What's the deal there?
Oh and the tweet immediately before the Raya one, she called "Soul" a movie that promoted a pro-life agenda. Probably not racist, but definitely a O__o moment that went under the radar because of the other bullshit.
And Linsay was "the good one" out of Channel Awesome. The one that escaped with her soul intact, and who actually had some talent. Nope. The poison got on all of 'em.
Mind you, Ellis was a Channel Awesome creator at the beginning if her career and although Dough Walker is always the most hated of the two, most of her former co-workers had little nice to say about her when this blew up. She was certainly a big fish in a small pond and took the brunt of harrassment over the Change the Channel exposé because Women Bad but a whole lotta online twitter buddies have stories of her not taking legit criticism well. Like, AT ALL. She's big enough that she'll be fine and reactivate her account before the 30 days are up, I'm sure. There's good ones, but mostly on the underrated channels like the Brows Held High guy who is legit proud ANTIFA or Dominic Noble, who demonetized all his Harry Potter reviews after JK Rowling went full TERF. But her? Just another Amanda Cooper in training. Too bad, cuz I loved her video ripping on RENT the musical but it'll never get another view from me again.
It fills me with such warmth and contentment, having gone through this thread and not understanding one iota who these people are and what the fuck is going on.
Huh. That was weird as fuck. Not offensive necessarily ... basically just dark comedy ... but really fucking awkward in execution.
This. Tf's the rape rap and do I even want to know? I've been smh at this whole thing because by and large Twitter users can be twatwaffly, especially if they perceive any sleight, imagined or real. smh at them, and smh at Lindsay for giving them any ammo at all.
The thing is, she's not even "canceled." She chose to close her account because she got some heat for what she said. Generally, I've found that the more you have to explain something, the worse it's going to get.
An hour and forty minutes of an explanation? Trump's malignant narcissist ass cannot talk for an hour and forty minutes about his crazy.
Exactly. If I had done what she did, I'd make a video that went "Hi, yeah, I fucked up. I'm sorry, it was stupid, and I will try very hard to do better." That's it. Certainly, there will always be some who won't believe her, and that's their right, but usually a genuine response where you acknowledge you done goofed is sufficient. It's when they double down with a sorry not sorry and here's what really happened response that makes things more difficult.
The thing is she is in the middle of a dramanado that has little to do with anti-asian hate. I am hoping that the length has something to do with the infighting in her community rather than her trying to tap dance around anti-asian landmines and making things worse. The whole thing is a joke to begin with. The people around her are not roasting her because they give a fuck about asians. They are using that issue to go after her because they do not like her. It is like Ten coming after me pulling my words out of context because I called UA out on his bigotry. Ten loves his racist buddies on the right. It is like UA and @RickDeckard pretending they care about trans kids in order to attack the left because they are supposedly hurting the children by allowing them to have hormone blockers. It is like the right wing calling out Biden for kids in cages. The attacks on her are clearly fake SJW bull. There is some real nasty shit coming at asians right now, but to hijack the opposition to that to make false outrage at someone who is not engaging in that activity shows how much trash you are.
Oh, most certainly there are always shit stirrers in the bunch, people who just see her as a means to an end, but that's why you just address your own issues and fuck out with the rest, because otherwise you let the people who want to destroy you have a field day keeping you on the defensive. A two minutes, tops, video would have taken care of things.
Yes, but it would not stir up a billion littler youtube videos commenting on what she said. In her defense it has to be quite the ego boost to have all those people talking about you like you matter.
True, and I try not to argue with such people when they do that (Twitter is FULL of that shit), because it only elevates their platform even more.
I watched/listened to the video while leveling some lowbies in WoW. She went into one of her essays about the entire situation, why she pulled her twitter account, and then addressed her critics and a long list of specific instances they dredged up, with each being, yeah, that was dumb on my part, I could have, should have phrased this better, but here's the context, why I said it, why it's problematic or could be perceived as such. She then addressed the Rape Rap issue mentioned up thread, the backstory to its creation (holy shit, even though the specifics are blacked out in post), and that it had been uploaded without her consent; it was meant to be an in joke between friends as a means to cope with prior events in her life. At the time, it was the Alt-Right that were trying to take her to the cleaners over it, and with the Raya/Avatar tweet (in which she spefically noted Honest Trailers made the same exact observation and did not catch flak for it), what the Right loves to call the SJWs latched on to it as part of the dog pile. She noted she has more respect for the Alt-Right because at least they're honest in their bullying.
