I empathize. I was in GATE as a child (the Gifted And Talented Enrichment program for my friends who've never heard of it), and they spent a lot of time telling us how unique and talented we were. My particular talent was music, but I also excelled in languages. When you're 10 years old, that kind of thing sticks with you, and I just figured this is what everybody did. I did learn the difference between the public school I attended, and the special GATE school I'd go to several times a week, and I thought to myself how amazing it would be if every child got that kind of attention. Somewhat unrelated to thread note: Teachers are grossly underpaid in this country for what they have to deal with, and utterly ignored when it comes to voicing the needs of their students. Still, at the end of the day I see myself as ordinary. Unique, but then unique is ordinary when you deal with creatures like humans. We're all so wildly different but there are core commonalities where we connect and speak the same language.
I’m not saying it isn’t special. It is. It’s huge. I’m just saying trans people don’t feel special and their specialness is not something over which they have any control. That’s why it’s up to adults to ensure it really is a psychological trauma or just a confused child looking for attention. Either way, adults with no dog in the fight, people who have absolutely nothing to do with the child, need to stay out of it - including the government. It’s strictly between a doctor and patient.
Not really where I was going, but similar. You have a thing for languages. That is a very valuable skill. I wish you had been in a situation that you weren’t forced to stay home and care for invalid parents as there would have been many opportunities for you. No, I was speaking more in terms of things over which one has no control. I am short. And younger, very small. In high school I was maybe 5ft tall and didn’t weigh a hundred pounds. Most of the basketball team joked about or teasingly attempted to toss me in the basketball hoop. Football players attempted a 99 yard touchdown run carrying me. Sure, to a point, all that attention from guys was a huge rush. But being carried, tossed, and basically made a joke, was not fun. And all the girls and not popular guys had a great time blaming me for getting all that attention and wasted no time calling me a whore. I was well into my forties before I ever had a female friend. Any friend I had in high school was just there hoping to get some of the attention from the jocks or trying to get close to my brother (that story is in another thread). Anyway, my point is, people who receive unwanted attention are doubly punished. Not only by the torturers, but by the bystanders watching it happen then accusing the victim of attention seeking.
UA in a woman's body- Stupid woman's body. Piece of crap with it's fuggin periods. I'm not trans though! I'll grit my teeth and bear it, cuz I'm not a fuggin' pussy. Oh, I've GOT a pussy, but I ain't one! Fuggin' special snowflakes with their transitioning. Rassafrassin.
My parents had to fight to keep me in school because I was bored with the classes. I just read things and understood them. I did not need busy work. I did not want to excell because that meant more work. They just did not know how to motivate me because when I want to achieve a goal I get it. I am bored with the world like I am bored with life. I am at a point where I can sit and watch and I really do not want to do too many things in the system, but I would be up for creating something with other people if they wanted to do it. I would like to work for the community and social functions, but I do not want to make donald trump rich so he can bully other brown people in other countries.
They just seem to think they operate under a special set of rules. You'll never know that as an absolute certainty, and anyone who raises the question is a bigot. And the parents.
Yes, and the parents. As for a special set if rules ... in this sense, every single human being, including yourself, operates under a special set of rules.

Negative. It's the same set of rules for everyone. There are those who accept them, and those who refuse to grow up. The Trash Heap has spoken.
Actually it means exactly that, and if you have no experience with that reality then you're the voice of privlidge talking. Puberty blockers are not "drastically life altering in any rational sense - actual puberty IS drastically life altering. As i have pointed out, there is no default "do nothing and wait option" available in this situation - to do nothing IS a choice and of the two, IT is the irreversable and lefe altering choice. Soooo....what you are saying is that your position is that we should ignore what these kids testify to about themselves - consistently, for YEARS, even if you KNOW IT WILL NOT BE IN THE BEST LONG TERM INTEREST OF THEIR HEALTH because...reasons...? Sounds very much like you already decided on the conclusion and you're trying to retcon a rationalization for it you can defend without looking like a monster. And yes, let's be clear, it's not the professionals and parents who are respecting these kids identity who is sacrificing their long term well being - it's critics like you. Because we have the data, we KNOW from ACTUAL RESULTS that supported trans kids thrive and rejected trans kids suffer. And you lot actively prefer the latter. Again, slower for the profoundly slow among us: PUBERTY. BLOCKERS. ARE. NOT. DRASTIC. Or are you saying that when an 8 year old goes into pre-pubescent puberty that her becoming fertile by 9 is preferable than giving her "drastic medical procedures"?
Exactly. The heart of the right wing worldview: that which I personally have not experienced and am not affected by is either unreal or unimportant and either way i don't give a single fuck about those who are affected. Can be applied to virtually any issue.
Anyone that might trouble him to have compassion for anyone he doesn't seen in his mirror is claiming some boon that he is entitled to withhold - that's how HE feels special. The reality is that - as I explained basically 10+ years ago - nothing a trans person wants MORE out of transition than to be utterly ordinary and normal. The best possible experience I can have in life is when someone (usually someone I am confident has no idea that I'm trans) treats me EXACTLY the way they would treat any cis woman they came across - in both the good and bad ways. I've had moments when I was on the wrong end of some sexist behavior and while, as a woman I objected to the fact that such behavior persists, as a trans woman I was affirmed by the fact that i had experienced the moment like an ORDINARY, NORMAL, TYPICAL woman - and not someone who got some sort of carveout for being "special." Also, if all of society got on board with that, we wouldn't be very visible to the assholes of the world like Albert at all because we wouldn't have to constantly advocate for our rights to be left the fuck alone. He sees us as presuming to be "special" because we have the temerity to ask people like him to crawl down off of our goddamn backs.
It was being applied to kids for other reasons before the concept of medically supporting trans kids even existed but thanks for showing your ignorance again.
Being a diabetic is special too. Being an epileptic is special. Being autistic or parapalegic or any number of other things is "special" in the sense that special actions need to be taken to improve quality of life. Has nothing to do with serving the ego of the patient. Thank God that Albert has yet to, to my knowledge, become a parent - may it be ever thus.
Oh, do you self-administer insulin every day for shits and giggles? Or do you insist no one does because "ByGodSameSetOfFuckingRulesForEveryoneIHasSpoken!"
Defined by whom, exactly? And why does anyone have the right to define these rules for everyone? Life isn't a Heinlein novel.
1) Does everyone with these physiological indicators eventually want to change their physical gender? Why not just give them all puberty blockers to cover your bases? If it's as safe as flipping a switch, with no negative repercussions or permanent effects whatsoever, why not just give it to everyone, give them a chance to decide if they want an innie or an outie first? Right. 2) Nobody with the audacity to compare being trans to being a fucking cancer survivor ought to be lecturing me about arrogance. 3) Suicide is a choice, not an immutable force of nature or the inevitable consequence of being denied your transition. FACT. Trying to use that as leverage is nothing more than narcissistic emotional blackmail. Funny, I was thinking the same of you. You sound like you spend a lot of time in a very specific sort of echo chamber where everyone practices reinforcing each others' rationalizations with cherry-picked anecdotes and narrow-sample studies. You sure you wanna go there, dickhead? Yeah, I'm not a parent, and I've never subjected children to undeserved anguish in service of my personal journey of self-actualization.
Again with not just not believing the lived experiences of trans people, but refusing to. What's up with that? They're not Aardra claiming to also be the Devil. It's not holograms. They're real. What would they get out of tricking you, anyway? Think they wanna steal your Lucky Charms?
*Nova, Tererun, and Amaris are eating a whole box of Lucky Charms out of one big metal punch bowl* *UA is hog tied in the corner being forced to watch* UA- Noooooo! My Lucky Charms!! Noo-ho-ho-hooo!! Yes, that's what that would look like. Thank you, brain.
I ignored that for lack of relevance. You were responding to Summerteeth on some sort of tangent I didn't care about. What point was that even supposed to be making? It had nothing to do with puberty blockers. Responded to in post 279. Also responded to properly in post 279. It's not peer-reviewed, and ideologically -- not scientifically -- opposed to medical intervention for gender dysphoria == no one has to give two shits about what it says in this context. Nevertheless, I *did* point out that it was misrepresenting the anecdotes it did cite, in post 263. That you didn't like and ignored my response is your problem, not mine. "C, D,and E, dammit!" is still not any sort of evidence of A, and calling "E" factual is a stretch at best.
