    I'm confused. Is that supposed to upset me because I'm a vegetarian? Because you do realise I cook meat for the rest of the family every day of the week? Never mind what the animals eat.
    F- for trolling, must do better. :garamet:

    You mean like you calling Techman 'a fuckwit closet queen giving reacharounds to homeless HIV+ orphans in backalleys.'? (here)
    Granted, that's a while ago, but then I only searched for that specific word. If you want it to change, stop working for the dark side.

    I'm intrigued (and a little mystified) by this perception that WF is dominated by some kind of elite clique that ostracizes everyone else, because (a) if there is such a clique, I'm definitely not part of it, and yet (b) I've never felt ostracized by anyone here. :shrug:

    WordForge, as I recall, formed because a number of the members of the TrekBBS believed that the moderation of that board left much to be desired.

    It gradually evolved to become what it is now, but the same spirit of anarchy and abandon persists, and to some, that is the attractiveness of this community. Those who find any moderation excessive find an even more anarchic board more to their liking.

    There are generally a few cliques that one might identify:

    - Protofascists who feel pleasure in inflicting verbal insults on others, without expecting more;

    - Others who have formed genuine friendships;

    - Those who are intellectuals, including those who are such even when they would deny that they are;

    - Those who write earnestly and out of an interest in the matters discussed;

    - Those who post to offer relatively mild rebukes on the foibles of others, or purely for fun;

    - Those who participate in other ways, even if only occasionally; and,

    - Those who watch.

    Most absurd of all are the smallest of all cliques:

    - Protofascists who feel pleasure in inflicting verbal insults on others and suffer under the delusion that they are worshipped by all for their skills as keyboard warriors.

    Some members appear to be members of more than one group, and group membership can change as personalities evolve.

    Despite it all, there is in their contributions wheat among the chaff, and certainly there exist threads are as interesting as any that could be conveniently found anywhere else on the Internet.

    Friends, brothers.

    Disagreements, words might divide us, but under distress we congeal as one.

    Even though I imagine some of us would come to blows normally, I could see those very same people fighting and suffering together in the world. I am proud to call a good many of you "friend".

    So I've heard.

    I got on with a man who needed a prison built specifically for him.

    He was an evil stalker who got some of his jollies stalking women. He went after Garamet, but she was made of stern enough stuff not to be overly intimidated. However, he was able to traumatize a woman who went by the screen name Teya at TrekBBS. He posted photographs of places she frequented and made truly slimy passive/aggressive references to what he would like to do her. I met her once when Garamet brought her along on a meetup in SoCal and she was a lovely woman, but I gather some previous bad experiences had left her emotionally vulnerable to those kinds of threats...which of course being a predator he could smell through the monitor. She ended up fleeing TrekBBS and the original incarnation of Starscapebbs. He remains to this day the only person I regarded in real time as someone who represented a very real threat of violence. He was full of self-pity and always painted himself as a victim whenever he was called on his misogyny. I'm sure some will disagree and regard his whole persona as nothing more than act, but I hope I never meet that bastard in real life and if it ever happened I would be fully on guard.
    Storm was a different matter. I'm never comfortable when someone is always ready to counter every argument with a gloating, ready-made argument. Much like the way Rush Limbaugh used to tell his acolytes how to "defeat" a liberal. There was never an exchange of ideas, just a constant game of one upmanship. I thought he was unpleasant, but someone I might have been able to get along with in real life. However, his exposure as an honest to God Nazi sent me down another road. He too, I regard as a dangerous person, but it took a while for me to get there.
