Livestream 3: Quest of the Delta Knights, featuring Pearl and both her clones, who, in true Midwestern fashion, get into a tiff at the end over hot dishes. Mary Jo doesn't remember this episode at all, while Felicia spends most of the stream as either royalty or food.
We're topping $4 million today! Livestream #4: Gamera vs. Guiron. Jonah and Hampton (Netflix Crow) show up for this, plus the tour Servo. Joel had to take a day off. Apparently Jonah and Hampton both got a bad batch of J&J vaccine and came down with a case of the sunglasses. Jonah says Atlantic Rim or possibly The Day Time Ended was the most painful movie for him to riff so far. Hampton picks Beast of Hollow Mountain. I remember liking two of the Gamera episodes a lot and the other two not quite so much. I'll see if I remember which category I put this in.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mst3k/makemoremst3k/posts/3178709 Details about the Gizmoplex finally come out, and I think it's very promising.
Three and a half days to go. We're at 23,000+ backers and about $4.3 million. The first one ended up with over 48,000 backers. A lot of those are probably going to show up the last 48 hours or so. Give me just 10,000 new backers who contribute at an average $100 each and we've got 5.5 in the bag. So. Not worried about hitting 12 eps + 12 shorts. So. The long-awaited Gizmoplex update. It's pretty much what Joel has been promising all along, a visually immersive kind of streaming service where you can feel like you're going to a theater with friends to watch MST3k together, whether all from a single couch or over the Internet. Joel's right. He needs to amplify the communal experience to keep this a going concern, and MST3k benefits greatly from watching with buddies. There will also be live events of one sort or another, not just premieres of new episodes, on hopefully a monthly basis. There's talk of getting RiffTrax, Cinematic Titanic, and other related ventures on board. Maybe even an arcade and merchandise sections. And -- very important -- MST3k will still be available on other platforms as well. It's hard to convey just how right this all feels. I don't know how well MST3k can survive on this kind of streaming model, but this is the way to try.
Two of the movies in the new season were announced during the warwilf stream last night: something called "Robot Wars" and a 2019 movie called "Demon Squad":
Final numbers from first Kickstarter: $6,364,229 from 48,270 backers. Final numbers from this Kickstarter: $6,518,832 from 36,579 backers. Twelve shorts, thirteen episodes, including a 3D Halloween special, two Joel episodes, some Jonah episodes, some Emily episodes, and a Christmas special featuring all three bringing the warm fuzzies together. Also, snowglobes. If I were in the market for snowglobes, that would be the only part of these Kickstarters I'd be disappointed with, as they feature the SOL over a moonscape rather than the characters. People in the comments seem excited for them, though! They were going to announce a third movie title during today's livestream but I guess that didn't happen. Maybe Joel hasn't quite closed the deal on the rights yet.
Writing has wrapped and production begins this week! Reward surveys are out, I should probably have KJ check her email. Storyboarding of the new intro here. It appears Felicia will be expected to go full ham. A previous update notes there will be movies from the '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, and 2010s, including the first B&W in far too long. I know Joel wants movies that will look good on the ultra-hi-def brain implants of the future, but I like the monochrome riffing targets even with the occasional coffee mug stain on the negative. Avatar confirmed!
I'm watching now, but will probably take a break to catch up with Discovery and a few other shows. Escape 2,000 is on, I've never seen it. "She looks like Shelly Duvall on a drinking binge."
The Season 13 list! El Santo in the Treasure of Dracula Robot Wars Beyond Atlantis Munchie Doctor Mordrid Demon Squad Gamera vs Jiger The Batwoman The Million Eyes of Sumuru The Shape of Things to Come The Mask 3D The Bubble The Christmas Dragon Robot Wars, Gamera, and Demon Squad we already knew about. Apparently this is the last of the old Gameras to get MSTed. The Batwoman is presumably not the same as Wild Wild World of Batwoman Sumuru is a movie I've actually heard of! And The Christmas Dragon is the one that will feature all three hosts at once. The Mask is not the The Mask that probably comes to mind. The trailer clips! https://kickstarter.mst3k.com/season13 I've only seen a few of the trailer clips -- I'll look at them all later this weekend, gonna stick to the marathon for Prince of Space -- but Things to Come looks extra-wild.
I know it’s late @NAHTMMM , but I feel like the thread title should be,”in the not too distant future..” something, something, Joel starts a Kickstarter, blah, blah, blah.
I didn’t get a chance to watch the whole turkey day marathon, but I did catch a little bit of “The Magic Voyage of Sinbad”. What I saw was funny as shit and I actually like those old Sinbad movies.
Has anybody seen this live? They're coming here in a couple of weeks and I'm debating about getting tickets or not.
We went to a live show in the "Watch out for snakes" tour. MST3K is fun in a big crowd. The actors were there on the stage for host segments but I'm pretty sure the actual riffing was a recording.
So I looked at the touring schedule and they’re coming nowhere near me. I don’t know where you live in Texas, @shootER , but it doesn’t look like they’re coming to your neck of the woods either. https://tickets-center.com/search/MST3K-Live-tickets/?performerId=37026&performerName=MST3K Live&tagid=153&atid=153&nid=1&accid=4186221823&cid=562415549991&akwd=mst3k live&mt=e&network=g&dist=s&adposition=&device=m&ismobile=true&devicemodel=&placement=&target=&random=13271401435262080940&loc_physical_ms=1027188&loc_interest_ms=&exid=&fiid=&vx=0&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5JD9-rnM9QIVSrLICh0XlwCmEAAYASAAEgKfR_D_BwE
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mst3k/makemoremst3k/posts/3443397 Season 13 premieres Friday! I guess the Gizmoplex theater aesthetic isn't fully coded/debugged yet, but they have a screenshot of what they're going for at the link.
