I have all 3 seasons of the original series on DVD. If you’d like to buy them, and inform yourself of actual Trek, make me an offer.

Do you think that Spock should be raging all of the time or do you think he should be attempting to suppress his emotions? TOS Spock didn’t embrace his human half that much.

TOS told different stories. And those stories were told from a 1960 perspective. Do you hate the new Lost in Space because it’s also different from the show in 1960s? What about sitcoms? Friends is nothing like Ozzie and Harriet, or The Honeymooners.

Shouldn't Piper be the doctor at this point? And wouldn't Chapel be a bit young yet?

This is a decade before TOS.
That page in Spock's life is unwritten.

    Here's what we know.

The Cage- Spock smiles, and is otherwise emotional. These scenes are shown in "Menagerie" so they're fucking canon, live with it.
DISCO- Spock is emotional consistent with "The Cage" and we're given a retro backstory that he was even more emotional until young Burnham drove him away.
SNW- Spock is sill emotional consistent with DISCO, but he has to become TOS Spock, so something must happen. And there's a lot of room on the timeline to play with.
TOS- Spock is mostly unemotional, but there are instances of his emotions leaking out.
TMP- Spock goes full Kolinar, but the mind-meld with V'Ger makes him cry, and realize he needs emotions and friends.
TWOK-TUC- Spock balances his logic with emotion and instinct.
    Unification- Ditto.
    ST09- Ditto.

As for Piper, he was pretty old, he could have retired.
There was a year between Cage and DISCO.

As for Chapel, Majel was 34 when she first appeared as Chapel.
Assuming she was the same age as Majel, 10 years before would make Chapel 24.
Jess Bush is 30, but looks young.
    There's enough wiggle room there.

I'll accept it if she's brand new and fresh out of the academy nursing specialization, and I get at least a line of dialogue mentioning Piper leaving. :bailey:

the academy is generally shown as a 4 year program that cadets likely enter around 17-18, so it fits if she's being portrayed as mid 20s.

I like the Pike trailer and the implication that his fate being known is a guiding force for him...

I'm concerned that they're recasting so many of the TOS characters here. I'd prefer "new" people.

It's a fill-in for the period between Pike and Kirk.

Spock has to be there. They didn't HAVE to put Uhura or Chapel in. That said, I'm not averse to it, just saying Rick has a point that they could have created two new characters. M'Benga is also a TOS character but he was in no way a regular (two eps) so I don't count him.

There's plenty of new sight-unseen characters here. A bit of familiarity for those used to the 2009 movies but not DSC might be a draw.

Descendant, you mean. And that's worse. But maybe they'll make good of it.

The "real world" explanation is that The Cage had Spock the pointy eared alien and Number One the cold emotionless first officer, and Roddenberry was told he could only keep one going forward, so he combined elements of both into TOS Spock.

In-universe it makes sense that SNW Spock would see Number One as a mentor and that he might act more like her upon taking over her position on the bridge. Not to mention that Kirk has McCoy hanging out on the bridge as an irrational emotional de facto advisor, so Spock would likely lean hard into emotionless logic to counter that influence. It's safer for him to let his guard down with the more logical Pike and Number one around. :async:

Are you and Rick really going to moan about two out of about 12 recurring characters?

I believe we're entitled to post our opinions on the upcoming show based on what material is available. I'm not even "moaning". I made a passing remark about "concern" and expressed the hope that it might still work. So feel free not to be so sensitive about it.

My apologies. When I posted that, I had just finished some replies in the Picard thread where another poster was very clearly showing his ass.
