The proper term in your case is "load".

    Bullshit.
OSHA regulations require an assist for anything over 45kg.
I suspect that isn't your weight you're pulling in that back corner of the workshop.

    also-just caught the "aboot".
dude, you're about two time zones off for that down east dialect.

To get my vocal inflection, you have to be able to say "Toronto" without pronouncing the Ts or Os

An acceptable assessment, coming from a certain political point of view. However, I still don't think he is "evil" or even a danger. Ok, maybe there is a link to totalitarian, dangerous thinking that I have overlooked so far.

Society must be able to deal with such opinions. If not, we have a big fucking problem. If Peterson is considered unacceptable and his opinion is no longer even worth discussing, because it is beyond good and evil, it is simply becoming difficult to find a social consensus of any kind.

It's not about stupid pronouns anymore. Those are luxury problems and a symptom. It's about a deep rift in society that can hardly be bridged. These are pseudo-fights that are driving "us" against each other.

    @Spaceturkey
"It just strikes me that Peterson is a weak man that fetishizes hyper masculinity whereas Rollins is anything but weak yet encourages guys to embrace our vulnerability."

Don't get me wrong, I respect Henry Rollins. He became a reflective guy.

But the man has hidden his problems with his self-worth behind kilos of muscle and illusion of grandeur for decades, so I have my problems when he suddenly has a problem with toxic masculinity and has now discovered his soft side...

As a counter-example to Peterson, he is probably only of limited use. ;)

However, everyone has their icons who have accompanied them since their youth. My hero was Peter Steele, a macho man, a womanizer, but also a broken, "weak" character.

I'm not seeing the "suddenly"? He's been promoting a more positive masculinity and internal awareness since at least '90 in the spoken word work... probably longer (I recall Lydia Lunch complimenting him as capable of great sensitivity in an '87 interview).

Interesting Tu Quoque you've created here, as Peterson is definitely a creation of his own inadequacies rather than experiences.

That's my recollection of Rollins as well. Not that I took any special notice of him. I just recall him being ... the anti Andrew Dice Clay.

Hey, the guy was 99 percent testosterone and rage when he was younger. Built like a tank. With the looks of a Greek god. That brings certain advantages that a guy like Peterson, for example, doesn't have. A guy like Rollins could afford to have a big mouth and get away with it! Or even be "soft" and promote "positive masculinity".

I certainly wouldn't have dared to argue with him if he was in the same room... ;)

And this is the problem with Peterson (from what I understand). He wants to be all big and bad, but he isn't and that makes him angry and then he must take it out on all those who are "less than" he is. There's a real peach.

yup... and even then he'd turn down fangirls on the basis of a perceived imbalance from his star power rather than capitalize upon it.

you're kind of making a "Chad's get all the chicks" argument when comparing two guys (of about the same age) ability to attract women. Dude has always been a straight edger, so being built like a tank kinda comes with the territory. Funny thing is in that video I posted, he talks about being young and having a crush on an "unattainable" girl who, IIRC, never did notice him.

nonetheless, the original point stands. Peterson is pretty much Goebbels ranting about being an ubermensch while the syphilis and meth slowly eat him away.

Ok, I'm starting to get that you guys rather dislike Peterson. Also Dave Chapelle is now persona non grata on Wordforge. Even Richard Dawkins is evil.

Is Ricky Gervais still ok or does he belong to the fascist camp by now? The latter is the only celebrity I follow. And he's not even a Yank...

I have no idea who Peterson is other than described in this thread. I do like Ricky Gervais, but I acknowledge I do not know any of any of his political beliefs that may or may not be in direct opposition to mine.

I just think Gervais is funny as hell sometimes and his series "After Life" is just brillant. I don't know if he has any very controversial viewpoints. I doubt it. But in the current heated political climate, you never know! Every brain fart is analysed to the hilt.

agreed. Most celebrities, these days, do best to keep their political ideology to themselves. Otherwise, they piss off half the world. and I liked After Life as well.

He does, but just to be an edgelord for his CHUD audience.
I wouldn't call them "beliefs" as such.
He's got that soft nihilism that comes with a bubble of privilege.

Peterson's the pseudo intellectual beard of various western chauvinism groups, so yeah... there's some disagreement and distaste. I never really liked Dawkins because he was a long winded prick who didn't bring anything new, just louder and smugger.

Don't care about Chapelle other than he's getting too much attention for having his market share drop on account of being a has been in a lot of the audience's eyes. Liked his classic stuff, but in retrospect it makes sense why he and Tim Allen became buds.

Gervais is kind of going that same route into irrelevance as he's kind of blowing his own credibility as a "curious intellect" in wrapping his head around anything. His lead work never grabbed me and he's turned out to be the Wish.com version of Stephen Frye.

^I absolutely love "After Life", "Derek" and the original "The Office". I don't mind his stand-up stuff. Never watched a single show. Stand-up comedy is just not my cup of tea in general.

Can't just say "He says things I don't like." Gotta try this high-minded veneer in the sad hope it will drag your opinions out of "Who gives a fuck what you think?" territory.
