On today’s Hack’s on Tap someone made a good point.

How do you think Mitch McConnell feels about his Merrick Garland play this morning?

There is a very real possibility that doing so tanked his chance to become Majority Leader again.

And then to have Garland’s DOJ be in charge of the Jan 6 investigations… :evilpop:

    https://www.hacksontap.com/episodes/the-vengeance-tour

The Hacks are back with plenty of snacks to break down the results of an illuminating primary night. Axe, Gibbs, and Murphy discuss the surprising voter turnout in Kansas, the fate of pro-impeachment Republicans around the country, the growing slate of election deniers in key states, President Biden’s winning streak, and Speaker Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan.

and of course you can't assume EVERY Dem and independent voted no, including both those who want some more abortion restrictions and those who just didn't entirely understand the question

Something that one of the podcasts I listened to said that while Kansas is pretty conservative it is unique in a couple ways.

    1) Compared to other states with the same Republican lean they have both higher education rates and higher urban and suburban rates. These are groups that Trump has been making increasingly uncomfortable in the R party.

    2) Under Brownback and the Tea Party takeover of their legislature Kansas got an early taste of what happens when you give the lunatics all the keys to the asylum. There is a reason that while they were Trump +15 they have a D Governor.

    3) Pretty much every state around them has gone insane post Dobbs putting in all sorts of abhorrent restrictions and proposing even worse. For instance half of all abortions in Kansas are girls and women from Missouri. So while thanks to their state constitutional protections the people of Kansas haven’t directly suffered the effects of Dobbs they have had front row seats to their neighbors’ suffering.

Which is funny, because Kansas' literacy and education (high school graduation) rates are still well below the averages of developed nations.

That plays into their hands though.
When the employers all leave, the women can get back in the kitchen.
Wife beating will do the rest.
In fact, it's not enough for Nazis that you abstain from evil, they'll pass a law outlawing NOT wife beating.

Eli Lilly can go fuck themselves.

The largest recipient of political donations from Eli Lilly is the Republican Party. (You can google it quite easily.)

They should put their money where their tweets are, or shut the fuck up.

In fact, any company that donated money to the Republican Party in the last ten years should probably just shut the fuck up.

worth noting that EL swore off donating to Insurrectionist politicians - then went back to doing so.

They do business in countries even worse that our Christofascist states.

All these big companies that go out here virtue-signaling (in the proper usage of the term) COULD make a difference if they collectively turned off the tap for EVERY Republican office holder or candidate and used the saving to top up donations to (almost) all Dems

    And yet... they don't

Democrats also want to use social media against people. But no it’s not both sides.

Maybe people should just abandon social media all together.

There's a bit of a difference between letting parents have oversight of their minor childrens social media accounts (which any responsible parent should already have oversight of anyway) and social media platforms selling people out to the cops.

But go ahead Lanzman, you "both sides" everything until they bust your door down for drunk driving and having impure thoughts. :dayton:

Just seeing this now, and I have to disagree a bit. Johnson County, which is largely a Kansas side Kansas City suburban area, has been trending blue for quite awhile now, predating the Trump debacle. Probably started going blue back in the Clinton era in the 90s. But still. Aside from that the message is sound.

ETA: The urban areas are waking up and the more rural areas of this state are dying off, so there's that too.

I'm sure, like you, they don't consider the GOP to be bad company.

Because, like you, they aren't actually interested in following the message of the Bible, but are very interested in using their nominal Christianity to smugly consider themselves better than others and shit on them.

Remind me what animal Jesus rode on, and remind me of what the symbol of the Democratic Party is.
